How to Move Past Beginner to Intermediate Skills
All guitar players at some point hit the skill level wall and stop improving and it is time to to get Guitar Intermediate Lessons. This can be cause by many reasons depending on the individual and access to new information. Most people advance to a natural comfort level at which progress will require much more work and a decision must made on weather to continue to advance or just settle on you current level and be done with it.
At this point, a beginner student must decide what path he/she would like to follow. To this, the student must set a goal and concentrate on the skill sets that will be attained. Most people that learn guitar have an idol that maybe the want to emulate. A person, that maybe is the reason that they started playing guitar.
Who do you want to sound like? When I was learning guitar, I was a big Kiss and Van Halen fan, so it is no surprise that when I pick up an electric guitar and start whaling on it, it sound like a combination Ace Frehley and Eddie Van Halen. Those were the 2 guys that I studied and listened to, so that is how I sound.

Pick One Style and Stick to it
Do you want to play like Angus Young or John Mayer or Jimmy Page or Eric Clapton or Buddy Guy?
They are all similar but they are also uniquely different. The more that you focus the more you will start to sound like them. I don't want you to just copy them but listen to how they play and you will notice that they have their own patterns and sound.
Once you have the commitment to a particular style or person, stick with it until you become relatively comfortable with it. In other words, do not decide to play like Randy Rhoads one day and then next day move on to Stevie Ray Vaughn.
There will be plenty of time to learn more styles after you become fluid in your favorite.
What if You Are Board?
Through the process of learning what you know now, there where techniques and lessons that you didn't take seriously or maybe you didn't understand. Take a minute and go back and look at them now.
Also, just try to learn a new lick every time that you sit down with the guitar. Sometimes when you are trying to learn someone Else's lick, you stumble on to a new lick that is cool and you can call it your own. There are thousands of variations to most common guitar licks. Do not be afraid to be creative.
