How to be a great musician and guitarist?

Ranked #7,519 in Music, #200,884 overall

Introduction

Every guitarist (also not guitarist - you can be pianist, vocalist, trumpetist :) ...) thinks - how to be a great musician and get a really great results in several years? Of course, first of all you must have good gear - about this I'll write here all my opinions and minds. So, let's begin!

First of all other things

Without this you can't live

Of course, it's a musical instrument - how you could be a musician without instrument? I think, it is impossible. So, every guitarist must have a guitar - maybe original, maybe copy of original. I recommend to buy a copy first - with a great copy you can rise up really fast - in my early years, when I was only 13 years old, I have bought a Fender Stratocaster copy - Squier (if you want to see it, it is shown on foto). Now I am 17 and I must appreciate - I didn't mistake with that.

But, if you want, really want (daddy, daddy, please, buy me this Malmsteen series guitar, i really need it, i'll play with it all my vacant, please... :D), and have some spare cash, you can buy a really good guitar. I'll describe 3 guitar types - Ibanez, Gibson and Fender.

Ibanez

It is one of the best guitar firms. Very popular musicians and guitaris are using Ibanez, for example, Joe Satriani, Herman Li from Dragonforce, Steve Vai, and many many others... These guitars has a Floyd Rose (well, almost all), witch is very useful for making very creative sounds, also using effect pedals, for example, Joe Satriani and his Digitech Whammy, sounds really good. Also Ibanez guitars has much more agressive look than Fender - Fender "horns" are rounded, but Ibanez has a sharpness. Not sharp as Jacksons, but it is enough to be a great-looking metalist with Ibanez, in my opinion.

Fender

Aah, this is my favourite. It hasn't so much sharpness like Ibanez guitars, but I love all those because they have a really good form - they can't hurt you :D I'm just kidding, of course. Fenders are good for its simplicity - rounded forms, tremolo bar (Fenders don't use Floyd Rose). Fender guitars are using by Yngwie Malmsteen, Ritchie Blackmore, Eric Johnson... also Avril Lavigne. But she uses Squier, witch is the Fenders subsidiary firm.

One of the interesting things, that Yngwie Malmsteens signature guitar has a neck with scalloped fingerboard. I heard, that this improvement allows you to play much more faster than with a classic fingerboard. Sadly, i didn't played with this guitar, but it should be great to do that.

Gibson

Another one good guitar type - Gibson. Gibson guitars use guitarists like Slash from Guns'n'Roses, Ace Frehley from Kiss, and a lot of other guitarists. Gibson is very ronded, ussually tree(sweet bright brown) color. My friend has an original Gibson Les Paul, and he is very happy with this guitar, it has a very nice neck, nice body - everything's showing, that Gibson guitars are great. Effect pedals

Without this your guitar is almost nothing

Another necessary thing to have is effects. Did you ever been tried to play clean guitar without any other effects. Sound isn't very cool, huh? So that is the primary thing to have effect pedals.

Most popular effect pedals are made by Roland and Digitech. My favourite is Roland, I don't know why, so don't ask for that.:) I'll review Roland Boss pedals. Here it goes.

Roland Boss Effect Pedals

Roland. I think, Scooter fans and pianists know this company. Roland is making synthesizers, which are very popular in all world. But this company produces not only pianos and synthesizers. It makes very good effect pedals (see photo).

In my opinion, Boss pedals are the best for not professional guitarists, but also for novice players. At the first, I recommend to buy distortion - it could be Blues Driver BD-2 for bluesmakers, Distortion DS-1 or DS-2 for rockers, and Metal Zone or Metal Core for hard rock and heavy metal players.

Another one very useful thing is a Noise Supressor. I have bought it in about two weeks ago, and I was amazed of this pedal function - it cleaned all dirty sounds from my guitar! Also it wipes all noise when your guitar is on, but you don't play whit it - it is very important thing in concerts, when you must be ready in any time.

Also, any other modulation effects are useful. For better effects i recommend Delay (DD-3, DD-6, or DD-7), reverb (RV-5), and Chorus (CH-1 or CE-5). There is another modulation effects, like Flanger, Tremolo, etc, but I write here most necessary.

Amplifiers

Maybe you can play with your guitar without amplifier, maybe, I don't know, but, in my opinion, no one can play without amp. It is necessary thing. I recommend to have Marshall amolifier - thery are the greatest amp in all the time, Of course, it is another companys, which makes good amp too like Laney, Peavey, but, as I said, Marshall is da best. For that reason I'll review those really good amps. Here it is.
