Guitar Lessons For Teens

First, decide if you want to go to a music studio for lessons or if you want to study on your own. These days, it's pretty impractical to have formal lessons; it's much easier, cheaper and more convenient to go with a program like this one. It doesn't hurt to start going over the lessons before you get your guitar; in fact, this program has a whole section devoted to buying your first guitar, which is the next thing you need.

Fortunately it's pretty easy to find a cheap one that plays well. Check consignment shops and classifieds, or just buy one of the less expensive new guitars. Don't forget to ask for extra strings! You'll need them, and probably soon.

So you've decided you want to learn guitar (or that your teen should learn guitar). You've probably done a little bit of homework on how much it's going to cost. If not, let me tell you. Best case scenario, you find a low-cost studio for maybe $15 a lesson. A lot of times you have to buy blocks of lessons, so your initial cost could be as much as $45 or $60 dollars. Some studios even charge you an "initiation fee," which can be around $100, give or take. That's $170 ($100+$45+$15), just to pick up the guitar. That may sound unreasonable, but the studios have to pay their adevertising costs, rent and teachers. They have to make their money somehow.

Fortunately, programs like this one offer great guitar lessons for teens and adults alike, so you don't have to break the bank trying paying for the quality lessons.
