The one thing that most people who want to learn how to play the guitar want to be able to do pretty quickly is learn how to play songs, and the best way to do that is to learn guitar song chords

Learning song chords is one of the quickest ways to learn how to play something that most people will recognize and so be able to see that you can play the guitar, even though you only know a few songs, but if you are working on the basis of just wanting to play to entertain people or friends then learning guitar song chords is the way to go!

How to Play Guitar Song Chords

Practice,Practic,Practice!

Right!, now even though i said learning guitar song chords is the quickest ways to learn to play guitar, that does not mean that it is by any means easy at first. For a start you will have to build tough calluses on the end of your finger tips so you can comfortably press the guitar strings down without being in pain!

So how do you do that?

Well it is quite simple really, what you do is learn a collection of simple basic guitar chords, the reason you do this is so your fingers will eventually be able to hold the shape of the various chords without you having to think about it to much so you can just concentrate on playing the song.

How do you learn these chords then?

Well what you do is learn various guitar song chords which are usually presented in some sort of progression or order, the whole purpose of this is for your fingers (after many. Many days of practice) to remember the chord shapes so you don't have to, which is called muscle memory.

So what you do is start practicing these chord shapes on your guitar, you do not try and strum the guitar at first because what you want to do is get your fingers to memorize the shapes of the chords and also get your fingers to toughen up enough so that you can press down on the strings enough so that they ring out and you do not feel any pain.

Now it will most likely take some time depending on how many hours you decide to practice to get your fingers accustomed to the work, what you do not want to do is put off a day of practice just because your fingers are a bit sore, what you need to do is work through the soreness so that your fingers will build up the necessary callouses so that playing will become pain free!

Once you can remember all of the basic guitar chord shapes you will need to practice strumming while changing to different chords, what you need to do is change chord shapes in an order and not just change to any shape you feel like, what you need is a chord progression to practice your chord changes with.

One of the easiest ways to finish of your practice sessions is to learn the chords of one of your favorite songs, once you can master playing the chords to a few songs you will be ready to play the guitar in front of friends and family, and belive me they will be impressed that you know how to play a few songs as well, even though playing guitar song chords is only scratching the surface of learning how to play the guitar, to your friends and family they will think you are already there!

If you are having trouble working out how to practice songs on your guitar or are feeling frustrated that you are not making the progress you think you should be, then i recommend that you

You will be able to learn guitar song chords in the quickest time possible and you will also miss out all the mistakes that you would have probably made if you just tried to do it all yourself.

Thanks for the info! I've wanted to play acoustic guitar for years but couldn't figure it out. Now 2 of my teen sons are learning and I'm catching on. I now can play about a dozen of my classic country favorites and am building up those callouses.I'm still having trouble changing chords quickly enough, but I'm getting there. Now I can do more than just sing karaoke!
