Learning Guitar Songs on The Internet

If you get online and look up Guitar Songs Lesson you will get a mix bag of actual free videos and You Tube clips and Blogs of many fledgling and expert guitar players proudly displaying the latest song or technique that they have figured out and are willing to share with you.

Not that it is a bad thing, there is a certain value for this information but it leads to an interesting paradox. If you can play guitar all ready, why do you need to learn a song from another person? I my opinion, the reason for this is that most people are not learning how to play the Guitar properly. Instead of getting lessons or using structured information on the instrument, people are picking things up in little snippets any way that they can.

Once again, Guitar Songs Lesson isn't a terribly bad thing but at some point the student must decide whether he/she is happy with their skill level or if it is time to move up to a more organized lesson plan.

Five Great Things About Online Guitar Lessons

Guitar Songs Are Not Lessons

You Get What You Pay For

I think that it is great that fellow guitarist like to share their guitar knowledge on the Internet. If you look you can find all kinds of songs, especially easy ones, that people like and they want to display, for free.

This is great but it is not a lesson. Other times you will see free licks and techniques offered also. Must of these are just way of trying to get you to buy something and they also are not a true lesson.

To me, the problem with learning this way is that it is too unorganized to benefit much. It's like a Pre-Med student knowing all about the Brain but nothing about the nervous system. Or an amateur golfer that knows a lot about putting but nothing about chipping. In other words, the players are not becoming complete guitar players. Guitar skills need to be strung together to make sense.

The Confusion of Guitar Songs Lessons

You Can't Save Time in a Bottle

OK, so why is it a big deal if people go online and learn a new song or have a Guitar Songs Lesson? Absolutely nothing. In fact, I think that this is an awesome resource to have for all levels of guitar players.

The problems lies in how much time that students waste trying to find what they really need. Most people believe that learning guitar is a process that needs to be systematic and pragmatic. There needs to be some type of path to follow so the student can improve in a relevant manner.

In other words, you don't learn Space Licks before you know how to play a D minor chord. If there is no order to your learning, you are wasting time. Even this is OK, if you have a lot of time to kill, but you also need to realize that this is time that you could be using to improve.

Five Great Things About Online Guitar Lessons

Interenet Guitar Songs Lesson Inaccuracies

Is What You Are learning Accurate

By learning through Guitar Songs Lesson, one of the other problems is that much of the stuff on the Internet is not accurate. In other words, the songs are being played inaccurately or the technique being demonstrated is not being taught properly.

I have seen many songs, that I all ready know how to play, misrepresented online. I have also seen instructors display a fingering or picking technique that is not done the way I would want to teach it.

These kinds of thing won't kill anybody but they do slow down the natural progression of learning something the right way. Once again we are back to what you time is worth? I would rather learn something once than twice.

Remember that playing any instrument, seriously, is a life long pursuit. You don't just reach the summit and quit. So, it is up to you whether you want to continue to progress or stall out and be like every other person that says, "ya, I play a little".
