Discover Gulfport, a Small Town City With Wide Appeal
I love visiting Gulfport, a small beach town close to St. Petersburg, Florida. The city hosts community events, like bi-monthly art shows (with their local artists), Springfest, 4th of July celebrations, Gecko Fest, a Christmas celebration with lighted yacht parade, and more.
It's a liberal town that embraces all its diversified residents. Gulfport is home to a huge art community, Stetson University, families, and singles. Everyone is welcomed.
Enjoy this mini-tour until you travel to Gulfport yourself.

Dallas' Star Times - News and Notes from Gulfport
Do you want the latest news from a Gulport resident? Twelve-year old entrepreneur Dallas is the founder, publisher, writer, and advertising manager of Dallas Star Times. He writes about local happenings and sells advertising to local businesses. The newspaper is his brainchild, and the whole family supports him by helping with web layout and contributing a story or two.
I applaud this rising star, as Dallas is a very focused, young man. Check out his paper for Gulfport news and events. If you're a local business, you may want to contact Dallas about advertising in his paper.

"Sunsational" Evening on Gulfport's Pier
We Love Gulfport's Fourth of July Celebration
Our family always goes to Gulfport's 4th of July celebration. An all day event, it starts with a fishing tournament and sand sculpture competition in the early morning. A children's pagent, for boys and girls up to age 12, is held in the casino. Some events require pre-registration.
Daytime events include face painting, with lots of vendors displaying handmade art, food, beads, holiday beads or hats, and much more.
Gulfport's Parade
Around 6 p.m., everyone lines the main street to watch the parade. Floats have included the mayor of Gulfport, the Gabber (the oldest family-run local paper), exotic cats, hot rods and motorcycles, dancers, school bands, scout troops, retired military, and more from local businesses.
Artsy and quirky are clearly part of Gulfport's charm, as evidenced by floats for healthy living, recycling, belly-dancing, unicyclists, Red-Hat society, and dog club. A family-friendly parade, the band plays and introduces each float.
Spectators' claps and waves are rewarded with beads and candy (and sometimes, business cards, fresh fruit, and water bottles too!)
The Fireworks
Fireworks start at 9 p.m., from a barge close to the Pier. In recent years, the Pier's been closed in preparation of the fireworks. Grab your foldable chairs and stake a piece of paradise to watch the fireworks.
We usually claim a small sidewalk close to the beach and watch the fireworks right over our heads. Spectacular!
Most of the day's events are free. With so much to do and see, everyone has a great time. Gulfport certainly beats the bigger city 4th of July celebrations with fun for everyone.

- When I lived in Tampa (technically Palm Harbor), I rented a house in Gulfport for a month one year. My son fished off the pier hours and hours every day. I was so content there living in my ideal image of a town. I could walk my dogs any time of the night and felt completely safe, the shops and historical homes are so charming. My favorite restaurant was Back Fin Blue, but a I really liked a Cuban restaurant that was on 22nd Avenue also. If I could, I would live in Gulfport in a heartbeat and hope to visit again very soon. You made me "homesick".
Blessed by a Squid Angel today!
