Guns N' Roses Discography: GN'R Albums

Guns N' Roses Albums: From Appetite for Destruction to Chinese Democracy

Guns N' Roses was the biggest band to come out of the 80's, with big hits like "Sweet Child O' Mine," "Welcome to the Jungle," and later hits like "November Rain," and "You Could Be Mine," the band proved that they had guts, integrity, and a style unlike any other band of the era.

Guns N' Roses were a straight up rock and roll band in a time when most music was either bland, over-the-top hair metal, or depressingly introverted alternative rock. Their music has proven to hold the test of time, and you can still hear hits from Use Your Illusion and Appetite for Destruction all over your radio today.

There aren't that many records to choose from, but what we do have from the band are absolute gold. Due to the lack of original recordings from the band in the 90's and beyond, compilations and live recordings have been released over the years. Axl, Slash, and Duff tried to block the release of the Greatest Hits collection, but their efforts were denied, and the hits collection was released in 2004.

Will There Ever Be Hope of a Guns N' Roses Reunion?

News about a GN'R lineup (as far fetched as that might be) and speculation will show up here

They've been offered millions to reunited, but Slash nor Axl want anything to do with a reunion at the moment. There's been so much bad blood between the band that a Guns N' Roses reunion of the original lineup seems highly unlikely. Both Slash and Axl voiced that they have been offered money, but have refused, and have a lot of issues going back a long time. In the unlikely even that Guns N' Roses does get back together, this feed will automatically update every 30 minutes with the latest Guns N' Roses reunion gossip and news.

The answer tonight (May 31) was in London right onstage at a Guns N' Roses show, just like he was when he played guitar for the band all those years ago. The reclusive Izzy Stradlin joined Axl Rose's current GN'R lineup at the O2 Arena in London, ...

My Appetite for Destruction

The Steven Adler Autobiography

A clean and sober Steven Adler, thanks in part to Dr. Drew Pinsky, vents in his 2010 book My Appetite for Destruction. Whether the band is irritated at his version of the story or not, Steven tells all, from his lowest lows of drug abuse to the high of highs (literally), to the humiliation of Axl firing him from the band live on MTV for millions to see. If you've ever truly wondered how rock n' roll excess can play out, then read Steven's story. It's a far different take on the band than Slash's autobiography.

early and late gnr is just plain brilliance. Axl might be guy with some arrogance in him but be honest: He has all reason to act as he is: one of a kind...And the reason why we should let him be himself is coz he's an utter brilliant kind that can complement to all of our lives. Let for christ sake SLash and him somehow throw their furious energy in the surreal feeling stuff only they can achieve: those of Guns n fuckin' roses. Be as bad as u can and live on the edge as only you guys can but do it as one. Rock sexy as gnr again.. and then. No 1 is what you will become.in more than one meaning.

Brings back memories, I don't think they should have carried on past the "Use your illusion" albums though, the early ones were the best. I still listen to them now, they are easily one of my greatest all time bands. Nice page.

Appetite for Destruction

The debut album from Guns N' Roses

Guns n Roses - Cross

Right: Guns n Roses Appetite for Destruction T-Shirt

When Appetite for Destruction was released, the musical landscape of rock was huge hair, formulaic pop metal ballads, and an archaic copycat environment that was becoming downright boring. Like an animal with a bright light being shone in its eyeballs, the public was met with shock as we first heard the opening riff to "Welcome to the Jungle," and Axl Rose's famous lines "You know where you are? You're in the jungle baby, you're gonna dieeeee........" Guns N' Roses, in 1987, reawakened the rock world with Appetite for Destruction, and it hasn't been the same since. It took a Nirvana to finally break the walls down of hair band repitition, but GN'R, in the same spirit, were just rock and roll - no frills, no formula, no cheese, just great songwriting, heaviness, inspiration and determination.

GN'R Lies

GN'R Lies

Guns N' Roses short EP of 8 songs released in 1988

GN'R Lies was the second album by Guns N' Roses to be released in the 80's. It's actually a compilation of two albums: Live Like a Suicide, which is live recordings of the band from before the release of Appetite for Destruction, and four new songs... sort of. "You're Crazy" was previously released on Appetite for Destruction as a faster electric version. This slower tempo version is acoustic, and is the original version of the song.

Use Your Illusion I

Part one of the Use Your Illusion albums

Was it a double album, or two separate albums released at the same time? Use Your Illusion I and II topped the charts at the time of their release in 1991. Give these albums a listen back to back with Appetite for Destruction and you can hear a lot of changes stylistically. Horns, pianos, ballads and overall longer tracks can be heard on the Use Your Illusion albums. The list of studio musicians for Use Your Illusion was also enormous, and permanent player Dizzy Reed was added to the lineup.

Use Your Illusion II

Use Your Illusion II - Features You Could Be Mine, Estranged, Yesterdays, Civil War

Of the two Use Your Illusion albums, this one was slightly higher charting (#1) and sold more. Use Your Illusion II contains the massive hit "You Could Be Mine," as well as "Estranged" and Bob Dylan cover "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" (which could be better than the original). Not only does the album feature lead vocals by Axl, but two classic GN'R tracks, "14 Years" and "So Fine" are sung by Izzy Stradlin and Duff McKagan respectively. Overall, the tempo of "II" is a littlle faster than I. The album had the singles "Civil War," "Knockin on Heaven's Door," "Yesterdays," "Estranged," and "You Could Be Mine," but you may have heard favorites "Pretty Tied Up" and "Locomotive" on your local radio stations from time to time. A second version of "Don't Cry with alternate lyrics was also released on the album.

The Spaghetti Incident

Guns N' Roses cover album released in 1993

Mostly covers, this is the last studio recording of Guns N' Roses (the original band) in an album format. The Spaghetti Incident covers songs from the UK Subs, Soundgarden, The Sex Pistols, The Stooges, Misfits, the New York Dolls, and even Charles Manson. The album was markedly lower charting than the band's previous efforts. There was also only one music video released for the album, for "Since I Don't Have You." It would prove to the be the last studio album for Slash, Matt Sorum, and Duff McKagan in Guns N' Roses, and Gilby Clarke's only album with GN'R.

Chinese Democracy

The long awaited GN'R Album released in 2008

Don't be fooled, Chinese Democracy was a great album, with or without Slash, Duff and Izzy. Sure, they are sorely missed, but Chinese Democracy is a great sounding record. You can't deny the talent behind songs like "Street of Dreams" and "There Was a Time," or the classic rock feel of "IRS."
