Your View Into the World of Gyarus!

This lens is for the gyaru style from Japan. The style is considered to be centered in Shibuya, Tokyo though it has people all over the world following it. There are many different subcategoriess of gyaru(as shown below). I'll share the differnt types, brands, magazines, parapara tips, and whatever else I can do for you all!

Forms of Gyaru

**With all of these looks, please note that Himegyaru+Oneegal are the most popular with some of the other trends dying down(not gone, don't worry).** **As of 12/19/08, more adult looks are in(as one site said, think Parisian, sexy but grown up). Fur/faux fur is very popular, jackets are a main part of the outfit, and black+white combos are very in.**

Gyaru-Kei - This is just the basic style, encompassing all forms of gyaru.
Fashions can be worn by both Ganguro (tanned Gals) or Ganjiro (un-tanned or slightly tanned Gals**White gyarus should NOT call themselves this**).
These are some subcategories(doesn't cover all):
-Amekaji-American Casual = This is basisically just what the average American teen would wear(think Uggs, Hollister, etc.). Not exactly exciting or unique for western gals.
-Saike Gyaru-Psyche Gal = Tie day+Tribal Prints+Boho all rold into one
-Bohemian = Bohemian print dresses, fake fur waistcoat, etc.
-Miritari-Military = an outfit with one military style item(big during the fall of '05)
-Rokku-Rock = Think of the jrock bands(not including the visual-kei stuff, that's lolita territory). Plaid, denim, skulls, you know the drill. Make it cute and not scary though! This look is popular at the moment, but losing steam as more adult looks come in. .
-Rizouto-Resort = Summer clothes that you would expect to see at a resort(hence the name). Obviously not plausible for those in colder climates.
-Marin-Marine = Think an extra-cue, girly, sailor:). Red+navy blue+white stripes.

Serebu - Celebrity gal, similar to onegal with less importance placed on designer goods and more placed on just looking like a celebrity. Big sunglasses are a must.

Ganguro - a gal with an artificial deep tan and bleached hair. The following on the old/new from a facebook group:
"OLD (out of fashion)

The old ganguro style consisted of white and black make which is rarely seen in the new style. The hair was almost ALWAYS blonde! The clothing was very bright and garish BRIGHT BLUE denim was in fashion along with big old platforms and mini skirts!

NEW

The new style is much more sophisticated and a lot less garish! The likes of Rumi ringo and Tsubasa have made the style classy. The new style of ganguro consists of black and white skinny jeans teamed with animal print tops, Brightly coloured low cut dresstops, a lot of white and worn denim skirts teamed with cute little tanks. Hair ranges from ash blonde to deep and rich browns, often curled to perfection, or with bangs and straight hair. A lot of knee high socks are used too! The make-up is very simple and flatters the persons facial features and makes you look elegant and hot *all of course spolit by lil old kaoru%u2026lol* Kaoru atm %u2026well i guess i have to cover all aspects of what models are waring%u2026.Kaoru is waring punky kinda t's with Denim miniz and black hair with bright flashes of colour in her hair. Brightly coloured tops with skull and cross bone patterns *shudders* Back to the make-up The simple lack of "white" becomes apparent! a alot more red is used to bring out peoples eyes with thin layers of well applied eyeliner."

Kogyaru - Generally a high school student who follows gyaru trends. Known for the big, loose white socks.

Oyajigyaru - from oyaji and gyaru. A gyaru who behaves in a masculine way, who drinks beer and uses rough language.

Onegyaru - A more sophisticated gyaru style. They are high school graduates and therefor more mature. Name taken from "Onee-san" or "Older sister"

Ogyaru - a dirty or disheveled gyaru who may forsake daily baths or takes little care in her behaviour and dress, even by gyaru standards.

Gyaruo - the gyaru's male counterpart.

Manba - deep tan and contrasting white make-up. Their hair is usually pastel-coloured or blonde, and very long and back-combed. Their clothes are neon and layered. It started out as Yamanba in the 90's, came back in 2004 and now no longer includes the Hawaiian accesories.
From same facebook group as before:
"MANBA(out of fashion)

Manba is old school and out now%u2026this is the fashion with stickers and white hair with streaks of colour..Big old hibicuses on ur dresses and colourful beach ware%u2026platforms and sandals where in too%u2026Make-up, quite dark foundation with heavy black eyeliner and bright white%u2026but not very low! stickers PLASTERED over your face *shudders* and Garlands were very popular! Lots of tiaras were in fashion and SOO MUCH CRAP up and down your arms.

MANBA (new)

new Manbas hair is MUCH BRIGHTER and MUCH BIGGER%u2026bight neons have taken over and all hair is push to its extremity that it nearly falls out with bleaching >< %u2026It backcombed to extreams and enough hairspray to burn another hole in the atmosphere is used ><

The bright and powerful make consists of large amounts of black and white which goes almost the the bottom of your nose. DARK DARK DARK foundation and spray tans are used. lots of glitter and colourful false eyelashes are used."

Sentaa - the male counterpart of Manba. Can use the white makeup "whiskers" the used to be used with manba but tend to follow the banba fashion. Hair is often spiked with a side fringe in blonde or a bright color.

B-gyaru - Literally b as in breakdance. Can be pale or tanned with reggae clothes and clubwear. Follow hip hop trends and don't tend to associate with other gals(They have their own turf in Shibuya).

Kigurumin - wear kigurumi, a type of pajama-suit that resembles an animal and sometimes cartoon characters.

Bibinba - this look usually includes a lot of gold and jewellery. Similar to b-gal.

Banba - barbie-gal, with differences such as their wearing of slippers and stilettos. They also use more glitter, and have a neon touch to their hair. They use more extreme-looking types of false eyelashes and coloured contact lenses. The most respected Gal-cir is Angeleek; there are 22 members in their Tokyo group, and they have many other groups throughout the country.

Tsuyome Gal - A Banba with toned down makeup.

Kyoba bo-i - the male banba. The make-up is similar to Sentaa-gai's, but the eyes can be made up to look bigger. They accessorize excessively and commonly don bangs.

Himegyaru - girls who dress as princesses. Hair colours vary from blonde to brown and is usually very big and teased. They wear expensive clothing from brands such as Liz Lisa and Jesus Diamante.
