All About Gym Class Heroes
Gym Class Heroes first formed as a band back in 1997, to date the band has released a total of four studio albums and has been signed to the Fueled By Ramen/Decaydance record label since 2004 now. Three studio albums have been released since signing to the label and before that only one album was ever released by the band in the form of the '...For the Kids' release. The band consists of four members; a vocalist, drummer, bassist, and guitarist also; a pretty standard line-up, but certainly no standard band. Gym Class Heroes plays music in the genre of alternative hip hop; the band does the style well and always the music sounds incredibly professional. In every area the band is highly talented, from the vocals right down to the instrumental side of things; all fits together supremely well and always the music of Gym Class Heroes has much to offer.
Over the years Gym Class Heroes has toured with a number of different bands such as The All-American Rejects, RX Bandits, Plain White T's, and Fall Out Boy; Gym Class Heroes is an incredibly hard working band and always seems to be on the road performing at some venue or another across the world. With the band's 2008 album 'The Quilt' a number of different big name guest appearances were made here; Gym Class Heroes is a band whose popularity is constantly growing and always the band's fan base is getting progressively larger.
In 2007 the band's singer Travis McCoy even collaborated with the world renowned Kelly Rowland to cover the track 'Daylight' for the soundtrack of French film 'Asterix at the Olympic Games'. The track was released in March 2008 and provides further proof that the band's fan base is constantly widening and all the time Gym Class Heroes is becoming more and more successful as a band.
Having now released four studio albums the future looks very bright indeed for the band. Already Gym Class Heroes has achieved a lot and the band shows no signs of slowing down just yet. The career of Gym Class Heroes really took off after the band was signed to the Fueled By Ramen record label, since then the band's feet have scarcely touched the ground and it's been a very busy and highly successful couple of years for the band. Gym Class Heroes has come a very long way in a relatively short space of time; the band may have formed over a decade ago and it's therefore not been an easy road to success, success has now been achieved however and all the hard work has finally paid off as the band now heads off on a huge tour with The Roots and Estelle.
Expect even bigger things of Gym Class Heroes in the future, for this band still has plenty more to offer yet. I believe that we've still not seen the best from Gym Class Heroes and with the band getting better than ever with the release of each and every album; who knows what kind of level of greatness Gym Class Heroes can ultimately achieve.

Gym Class Heroes - As Cruel as School Children
(2006)
As Cruel as School Children
Amazon Price: $13.98 (as of 12/05/2009)![]()
'As Cruel as School Children' is the fantastic third studio album from Gym Class Heroes; an excellent fifteen track release and one which is most definitely well worth listening to whether you like hip-hop or not. I'm not the biggest fan of hip hop in the world I have to admit; I love the music of Gym Class Heroes though and am sure that if you listen to this album then you will too.
The album features a number of collaborations with the likes of Fall Out Boy's Patrick Stump, and The Academy Is... front man William Beckett; it's a brilliant album and with each and every track here the band shows its fantastic quality and incredibly talent for recording the perfect track. The album flows strongly, and with every track the music always has much to offer here.
Gym Class Heroes bounce through every track with a high level of energy and enthusiasm; at each and every turn you'll find fantastic quality here and it really is rather hard to find fault with the album. The band strongly samples other artist's sounds here and makes use of Supertramp's 'Breakfast in America' with 'Cupid's Chokehold' and also Jermaine Stewart's 'We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off' with 'Clothes Off!!'. It's a truly terrific album and with each and every track you can expect music of an absolutely stunning quality here.
If you like hip hop (or even if you don't for that matter) then be sure to give the 'As Cruel as School Children' album a listen; you'll surely not be disappointed and I'm sure in fact that you'll love this one just as much as I do. 'As Cruel as School Children' is an absolute masterpiece of a hip hop album and one which should without a shadow of a doubt be present in the personal music collection of all.
Gym Class Heroes - The Quilt
(2008)
The Quilt
Amazon Price: $12.99 (as of 12/05/2009)![]()
'The Quilt' is the fourth released studio album from Gym Class Heroes; an absolutely incredible album from the band and one with which the band's fine instrumental/vocal style is once more showcased to absolute perfection. Never has Gym Class Heroes released a bad album yet and they certainly didn't start doing so here.
If you've heard the band's 'Cookie Jar' track then you can expect more of the same here; further uplifting alternative hip hop tracks to sink your teeth into and of course thoroughly enjoy too. The quality is always kept incredibly high here and the way with which the band bounces through the album is always an absolute joy to behold. Never is there a bad track present here and all fourteen are just absolutely amazing.
Again a number of special guests feature here; the proof that the band is growing in popularity all the time is absolutely clear for all to see however and this time round the featured guests are bigger superstars than ever. Grammy award nominated The-Dream features here and so too do Busta Rhymes and Lil' Wayne. Add to this that the British MOBO award winning Estelle also features here and you have an all star cast of an album indeed. Patrick Stump is again present here providing guest vocals, this time round he's not the star of the show however and has a number of different popular hip hop/R&B stars to compete with here. It's a superb album and the presence of all these amazing stars certainly helps to improve the quality of it all; not that it'd be a bad album without all the stars that feature here, it certainly makes it an even more exciting album to listen to though as you keep your ears peeled for all the special guests vocal input.
With 'The Quilt' the band has once more put to record an album of absolute aural gold; again I fail to find fault with it and as ever the music is all incredibly impressive here. Fourteen tracks feature here and never for a second is there ever a single moment of weakness. Every track is excellent and all fourteen come complete with the most amazing of choruses and the fine vocal tone of Travis McCoy. The vocals of Travis McCoy have always been my favourite feature of the music of Gym Class Hereos, never does his voice cease to amaze me and always his vocal flow is astounding. Travis McCoy is a huge vocal talent and the other members of Gym Class Heroes are very lucky indeed to have him present in their band.
'The Quilt' is one of the must own albums of 2008. If you don't invest in this one then you're missing out on something truly special.
