A Simple Gymnastics Style
Gymnastics meets are nerve wracking! You know your routines, but you've got to make sure the nail polish is off, the jewelry is put away and your hair is out of your face.
With this simple style you can keep the hair out of your face (and avoid that deduction for brushing it away!) and strive for that gold!

This Mom's Favorite Styles
I have a favorite style that I use on both of my gymnasts. I found it on the USAG website a while back but it now appears to be gone. Here's how you do it:
1) Gather long hair in a high ponytail.
2) If hair is long enough, braid the length of it. If it's not long enough to braid, bind the ponytail every half inch or so with colored elastics (I like the Goodie brand or the Scunci brand ones)
3) Coil braided or banded hair around base of ponytail clock-wise into a tight bun.
4) Using a large, dull point tapestry needle and sturdy tapestry yarn (I like to use team colors for this!) start in at the 6:00 position and come out through the middle.
5) "Sew" hair counter-clockwise until you reach the 6:00 position again then tie yarn tightly.
6) I always finish with a scrunchy around the entire bun but you can leave it plain also.
I use this style for both my gymnast with waist long hair (braided) and my gymnast with shoulder-length hair (banded). It keeps the hair in place for once! :)
