Thank You Squidoo & Squidoo LensMasters for this splendid community!

It has been 5 months since I began writing on Squidoo and the journey has been filled with delight, amazement, countless learning experiences, and most of all the joy the people of this community have brought into my life. This lens is my 100th Featured Lens. I would like to dedicate it to Squidoo and to all of the Squidoo LensMasters who have touched my life along the way.

This milestone is possible because of you. Your wisdom, compassion, interaction, tips & advice have made the experience fun and exciting right from the start. While this lens may sound like it is 'about me', I have categorized it in the 'people' category because it would not have been possible without you.

Here is YOUR lens!
IN~JOY Brightest Blessings, GypsyOwl

An Ode To Squidoo Culture & The Founder

A dedication lens would not be complete without an introduction to the culture and the founder of squidoo.com Seth Godin. Many of us already know this now, but, when I first arrived (in February 2007) I didn't stay long enough to actually 'look' at the community. I landed on the build a lens page, typed GypsyOwl, and thought that it was a sign up for the blog. When the workshop opened, I thought to myself, "the blog I am using now is easier than this."

I was a lensmaster with two or three modules and a profile that said "This is my bio, I can edit it later."

15 months later I realized that Squidoo was not just another blog, in fact it is a dynamic platform with countless features that allow anyone who is interested:
To drop in,
Create an account,
Build a free webpage, and
If it is really good there are rewards.

Members can write about virtually any topic (some expected restrictions apply) and can make an income or earn money for charity (or a combination of the two) without any previous web page building experience and on any schedule that is most convenient for them.

Contests - Activities - Challenges

So you have a culture of having fun, doing what you are passionate about, sharing your expertise and recommendations (you are the expert) and along the way you find the most delightful community of people to work with. Inspiration abounds and the results are astounding.

I recall thinking about my first lens after I finally realized the potential on squidoo. I already had two URL's (if I recall right), and for over a year they had the basic modules (I believe there were two at the time). So, to continue, I will not count them as my first lens although I may have added some content to them when I started working on lenses in May 2008.

The first lens was a brainstorm after watching a television show called Paula Today. She was talking to an author and as I was listening something told me to grab a tablet and take notes. I am glad I did as within a few days I had "Go With The Flow vs Be In Your Flow" and my first feedback from the SquidU forum.

The result of that first publication was reader feedback. I was inspired by the comments being left in the guestbook so I created another module that excerpted quotes from the readers. Then something unexpected happened. I discovered the Featured Lens and Featured Lensmaster modules. So, I placed one of the quotes in a special thank you and came up with the idea for the Be In Your Flow - Exemplar Award. As you may recall, that first feature sparked a lot of interest and I decided that I wanted to feature 'everyone'. Truly, how do you choose between so many dynamic and generous people when you are trying to say 'Thank You' while at the same time not leaving anyone out because sincerely every single contact I have had here has been a blessing to me in so many ways I cannot begin to count or list them.

Winners...

...of the Be In Your Flow - Exemplar Award

The list of winners was growing so I created a new lens to archive them. That lead to a group. And here I am going to list for you every single lensmaster who has won the award.

Visit The Award Lens to see which lenses won.

Visit the GROUP Headquarters to make sure you have joined the group if you are listed here.

Winning LensMasters may submit the winning lens and up to 3 additional lenses to the group.
Submit the winning lens and your top additional lenses. The winning lens will be Featured. The additional lenses will be reviewed and additional winners may be chosen.

    Motivation - Excitement - Inspiration

The energy in the Squidoo Community is uplifting, motivating, inspiring, and exciting. As you arrive you are greeted by new people who have added their vote of confidence to your Lensmaster page (the Fans), and you then enter into the dashboard area and are greeted by praises such as "Happy payday, sweetie pie", or "is it just me or do you look taller", or "If you were a new hamburger at McDonald's, you would be McGorgeous." I am a bit embarrassed to say it took me a very long time to realized that the little notes were not there on my dashboard 'just for me.' But, shhhhhhh I still forget that now and then and it really feels good to see them. Generally it feels as if I am working alone. But, that doesn't last long because I am reminded to drop into the community forum, or I notice messages from fans and readers, then I go and visit their work and say hello as often as I can. It really means a lot when anyone takes the time to drop by and say hello.

One day you arrive and notice that one of your team has made Lens of The Day (LotD) and you rush off to put a note of congratulations on their winning lens. Another day you catch a glimpse of a charity drive or at least you find out about it afterwards and get to enjoy all of the entries. I recently found and entered the Squidoo Activist's Virtual Rock Concert Week and was thrilled to be a part of such an incredible charitable activity. Then I recently had an idea for the new Direct Donation modules and created a charity lens for lensmasters to enter lenses that will later be put on a Feature Lens. I have been adding them over time so that I do not find myself trying to move all the winners all at once at the end of the session. Make A Donation & Be Sure To Vote ....

Squids, please vote for A Day of Hope at the Squidoo Charity Giveaway Lens. Squidoo will give A Day of Hope $2 for each vote received (see lens for details). And Thank You For Caring.

A Day of Hope is a program of the CSU, Stanislaus Foundation that delivers baskets of food and turkeys to needy families in Stanislaus County for Thanksgiving.

We at Squidoo passionately believe in creating new ways to support good causes online. By making a donation to A Day of Hope from this page, you are sending money directly to that organization, in whatever amount you want. We don't touch it. We don't even see it. The author of this page doesn't either. And if you made it this far, thanks for caring.
