GIMP Filmstrip - Another Filter Option - Make Banners or Web Page Header
Ranked #4,891 in How-To, #50,622 overall
With GIMP You Can Create Banners or Web Page Headers

First - Open Gimp - Select 'New' - and Size to 250 pixels x 250 pixels

Any photo or image will do for this project.
You are going to 'open as layers'
each image you want to be shown on the filmstrip
in the REVERSE order you want them to show up. The Last Image you place on the stack is going to show up FIRST on the Filmstrip.
Look At This Again...

Note that the 4th frame is just a color? That was the bottom layer on the stack. I started out with the solid color base and then 'Opened as Layers' each of the other frames.
Ok.. back to the beginning.
"Open as Layers' each image you would like to have on the filmstrip.
If the image is too large...
Hover over the name of the image in the 'LAYERS' dialog
Right click
Slide the Mouse Arrow up to 'Scale Layer' and Left Click
For this sample since the Project is 250x250 pixels I 'Scaled' each layer to best fit inside the project. If you only want 'part' of your image in the frame, you can scale it a bit larger and then CROP it (*IMPORTANTBe Sure to Double click on the Crop Tool (in the GIMP Dialog area) and then put a check mark next to the line that says "Current Layer Only" in the Tool Options Dialog.
When you have three or four images in your Layer Stack... Next you can create the Filmstrip.
Click on the 'FILTERs' tab Along Top of your Image Dialog (this is where you see the image being created).
Slide your mouse arrow down the menu to "COMBINE"
When you are hovered over "COMBINE"
Another menu opens. There are two options. Move your arrow over to FILMSTRIP and click on it.
The FILMSTRIP Dialog box opens and you see several options.
For the Butterfly Banner I left the defaults except I clicked on the Available Images area TWICE. Click once and click "ADD" Click again and click "ADD" again.
Next... Click "OK"
Your filmstrip will be created and will open in a new image dialog box.
BE SURE TO SAVE IT
SAVE AS...
Create Your File Name
Select the folder you want to save it to
and Select the FILE type you want to save it as.
The Butterfly banner is a .jpg
For Banners and Web Page Headers the best file types to choose are usually .jpg or .png
Last Steps
The final steps to finish the filmstrip include Cropping (I removed the last frame - it was another Solid Color frame). And then I added the Text "Butterfly". Filmstrip Ideas
Using the Filmstrip Filter...
Why not create a COMIC STRIP?
REMEMBER - The First Layer (bottom) on your stack will show up LAST on the Filmstrip.
You can change the order of layers in the LAYERS DIALOG: Hightlight layer and click on Up or Down Arrow to move it.
