GIMP Software Download - Graphic Design Showcase
This Lens: Find the GIMP software and direct you to tutorials so you can learn to use it. This lens will be included in the GIMP Workshop Lens Group. The lesson in this lens will focus on graphic design and primarily how to create a gif file (animation) globe, using GIMP.

Stable version of GIMP

GIMP 2.4
GIMP has been developed by countless developers who work in groups or individually around the world. As new ideas are submitted they are added to a task list for adding the new ideas to the group members.
As a new concept becomes usuable, it is added to the program. When a new version of the program is first released it is generally released in BETA. This means that it is ready to use, but, could have problems or glitches (bugs). The users who download Beta versions are generally able to manage, report, and suggest bug fixes.
If you are a developer, or have a daredevil approach to tech, then use Beta versions at your own risk.
If not, it would be best to choose the Stable version of the software. The most current Stable version of GIMP (as of July 16, 2008) is GIMP 2.4
GIMP is a free open source software program available from www.gimp.org
Make sure you know what kind of operating system you have (windows, mac, etc). Since I am using Windows Vista, I needed to find the right program for my operating system.
If you are not sure or have any questions about the program, you can visit the forum at gimp.org and check in the discussion archives (if you don't find your questions answered there, post according to the posting guidelines).
Remember; GIMP is free and anyone who helps out in the forum are doing so out of the kindness of their hearts on a volunteer basis.
