Haier CPRB08XCJ | Haier Portable Air Conditioner - Perfect Mesh of Form and Function

Haier CPRB08XCJThe Haier CPRB08XCJ portable air conditioner from Haier is affordable and performs well. This portable air conditioner measures 24.4" L x 17.9" W x 13.1" D and weighs about 56 pounds. The Haier CPRB08XCJ is the #1 best-selling portable air conditioner on Amazon. Priced at just under $300, it is affordably-priced and it is cheaper to run that most central air conditioning systems. This unit delivers 8000 BTUs of cooling power, which is perfect for cooling and drying rooms of up to 200 square feet. According to the manufacturer's specifications, it is designed to cool rooms from 250 - 350 square feet in area.

An eco-friendly refrigerant is utilized for zero ozone depletion on this model. This Haier CPRB08XCJ air conditioner is also ROHS compliant, meaning it is free of lead, mercury, and other hazardous substances. This model features three comfort modes: 1) It can be used as a cooling unit, 2) Dehumidifier, or 3) Fan. Keep in mind that you need to get the right size and BTUs for your specific area.

Setting up the air conditioner is relatively easy. In fact, it can be setup by following six easy steps. One important aspect not covered in the instruction manual is that you will need to insert a plug into the back of the unit. The plug is actually included as part of the package, but it is not listed on the parts list or mentioned in the manual so it can easily be overlooked. If you fail to install the plug, water may leak from the unit. As with most portable air conditioners, the flexible hosing allows the unit to be pulled away from the window to direct cool air where it is needed most. Plus, with a portable air conditioner, you are not clogging up the window as with a window unit. This unit doesn't need to be drained on a consistent basis because it is a self-evaporating unit. However, keep in mind that occasionally you may need to drain the unit.

Other notable features of the Haier CRPB08XCJ include an LED push-button display, three fan speeds, and an easy to use remote control. The casters are fully directional and allow for easy transport from one room to another. This Haier model incorporates both performance and stylish design. This particular model even includes a complete window kit that fits double-hung, sliding, and casement windows. The window installation kit includes a hose, hose adapter, window panel kit, and window panel adapter. It is advisable to install insulation around the window insert.

Air Conditioner Buying Tips

There's no better feeling than getting out of the hot sweltering sun and into a nice air conditioned room. Here are some helpful tips to consider when buying an air conditioner.

Size Matters
This is the biggest mistake that consumers make when buying a new air conditioning unit. In fact, size does matter. You have to make sure that you get the right size for the area you plan on cooling. Getting the wrong size can equate to ineffective results. For instance, if you buy an air conditioner that is too small, it may not get the room cool enough. Similarly, if you buy an air conditioner that is too big for the room, the compressor won't run long enough, meaning that it won't remove humidity from the room and you will be left with a cool, clammy environment.

BTUs In Relation To Cooling Area
Smaller air conditioners with (6000 BTUs or less) can cool up to 300 square feet. Medium-sized air conditioners (7000 - 9000 BTUs) can cool between 250 - 400 square feet. Finally, larger air conditioners (10,000 - 12,000 BTUs) comfortably cool environments up to 650 square feet. Since in general these larger air conditioners are heavier, they are harder to install.

Other Factors Leading To More BTUs
If you plan on getting an air conditioner for a dining room that is 160 square feet, you may actually want to consider getting a model with more BTUs. You also want to consider other factors, such as sliding doors, sunlight peeking in through windows, and doorways leading to other areas of the home. You should even consider the number of people sitting down for a meal. All of these factors should be taken into consideration and you should accordingly increase the BTUs on the air conditioner you plan on purchasing.

Can Your Air Conditioner Take The Heat?
Another important consideration when purchasing an air conditioner is can your air conditioner handle the heat? Obviously, you want one that you can count on the hottest days and when your power grids are pushed to the limits. These are extreme conditions, but they are also quite plausible.

Digital Temperature Displays
When buying a new air conditioner, look for digital temperature displays. Ensure that the display is sufficiently large and easy to read. In addition, digital readings offer more precision that models with generic readings such as warmer or cooler.

Timer Feature
It is worth getting a model with a timer so that you can control when the unit turns on and off. This nifty feature can save you quite a bit of money in terms of energy costs.

Split Ductless Units
Split ductless units have a condensing unit that goes outside and an evaporator that is mounted inside on a wall. These types of units do not require duct work. They are quiet and cooling performance is excellent. The problem is that split ductless units can cost as much or more than central air units.

Portable Air Conditioners
The flexible hosing of portable air conditioners, such as the Haier CPRB08XCJ, allows the unit to be moved away from the window, directing cool air where it is needed. However, typically these units are quite heavy to move around, especially on carpeted surfaces. Another downside is that they don't cool as well as comparably sized window units.

Solar Air Conditioing is a good alternative as it saves energy...but can you get protable versions? not yet ...does anyone know?

We use one of these in our summer cottage on the few days we need air conditioning. It does the job. Mostly we prefer to have the windows open, but when it gets above 95 degrees it's time to switch this on.

Is there any Solar Air Conditioner of that type of AC? Just curious, solar power + portable AC, it's far way too good to be true right?
