What is haiku?

Haiku is a form
of poetry as boundless
as the open sea

and far less salty.
Haiku is a perfectly
passive aggressive

form of self defense
for those willing to obey
its syllabic ways.

The Way of Haiku Jujitsu

How I will unvail the mysteries of haiku.

this list is just like
the second line of haiku.
seven items long.

Yellow Belt: Just the beginning, Gokyu.
Green Belt: We've stepped up, Yonkyu.
Blue Belt: Please and Sankyu.
Purple Belt: Just do it, Nikyu.
Brown Belt: Dwight D. Ikkyu.
1st Degree Black Belt: Surely, Shodan.
2nd Degree Black Belt: Just say Nidan.

Yellow Belt

Just the beginning, Gokyu.

Haiku flow from mouth
and spin, block, strangle, joint-lock,
and grow to the sun--

whose light moves from east
to west and never backward.
Even the smallest

tree follows yellow
waves of light from uncle sun.
Grow green haiku Gokyu.

We've stepped up, Yonkyu.

no carbon footprint
comes destroying garden house
without sandaled feet.

we must conserve it,
like conservationists, not
conservatives, do:

they do it outside,
from the rite and not the right.
make green and save blue.

Beer Haiku Daily

a brew a day keeps the liver at bay

each day a new glass
is filled to the brim with brew.
it's hops and haiku.

Blue Belt

Please and Sankyu.

Now we have mastered
green and yellow, but subtract
the two and get blue.

Sky covers earth still
with its azure afghan/quilt.
Clouds are just nonsense.

The nurples of the
elders have been twisted to
a distinct purple.

It's the news, but in haiku.

breaking headline says
what we all feel inside, yet
in haiku we read.

Just do it, Nikyu.

The grapes in the bowl
are slowly losing pigment
as they bear the start

of fermentation.
So sweetly bitter, but still
intoxicating

enough to drown all
who take the flask to their mouth
and paint the town brown.
