Hair Sticks and Forks can be Used in Many Styles
What are Hairsticks (also known as Hair Sticks)?
A major advantage of hair sticks is how little they damage long hair. When growing long hair, it is very important to minimize damage and breakage, and hair sticks are some of the least damaging hair accessories. Contrary to popular belief, long hair does not have to take a long time to style every morning. Compared to the blowdrying and styling products often needed to style short hair, putting up long hair with hair sticks takes no time at all! Also, you do not have to have superlong hair to use hair sticks. As long as your hair is shoulder-length or longer, you will be able to use hair sticks. Any hair stick purchase from Art for Hair includes fully illustrated instructions for several styles, so you will easily be able to create a variety of styles.
Hair Stick History
During the 1920s, hair sticks became more widely used in the West. Today, they remain a classic way to style long hair; they will never be out of fashion. Hair sticks today are made from wood, bone or metal, and choice of material is largely a personal preference. The tops may simply be carved into a design, or decorated with beads or dangles. There is a hair stick for every occasion, from designs suitable for casual, everyday wear to those for office wear, special occasions and formal events.

What Length Hair Stick/Fork do I Need?
To determine what functional length of hair stick/fork you need, make a simple cinnamon bun (see instructions below) with a pencil. Have someone measure across the bun, the length of the pencil that is hidden by your hair. Now consider how much of the hair stick/fork prongs you'd like to 'stick out' on each side of the bun. Most people prefer not too much to be sticking out, maybe 1-2 inches total. Add the measurement you took across the bun to this number, and you have the functional length you need to look for in a new hair stick/fork.
If you would like to do a style such as the flip (see instructions below), you will need a slightly longer hair stick/fork.
Hair Stick or Hair Fork Styles 1 - Simple Cinnamon Bun
An easy one hair stick or fork style suitable for any occasion!
First, the hair is drawn back into a ponytail (but not secured with a band, just held). The tail is then twisted into a rope, and this is coiled around the base of the ponytail. A hair stick is taken and inserted into the outer coil at about the one o'clock position. It is then weaved in and out of the bun and scalp hair to emerge at about the seven o'clock position. Another hair stick can be added, either parallel or to form an 'x'. A hair fork can also be used in the same way to hold this bun.

Hair Stick Styles 2 - The Flip
A casual, quick one hair stick style
First, hold your hair back in a ponytail, and hold a hair stick vertically on the left hand side of it. Bring the ponytail in front of the hair stick, so the tail is held horizontally, pointing towards your left. Rotate the hair stick 180 degrees clockwise, bringing the ponytail behind it (between your head and the stick). The stick should now be vertical again, but pointing upwards. Now rotate the stick so that it is horizontal, but pointing striaght into your head. Continue rotating in this plane until it is vertical again pointing down. Push the hair stick down through your hair until the hold is comfortable.

For customer reviews, check out our review page. A customer review for the hairstick pictured:
"The hairstick arrived safely today! Thank you so much for making it for me. I love it! This is so gorgeous!
I'm glad that you added the dangle for me because I really like how it hangs and moves. The hairstick looks so beautiful when used in hair - just the right portion of wooden part and the flower part are showing, and the dangle is just so pretty.
Thank you very much again for such wonderful work of art."
