Haitian Creole translation as a charitable contribution

Ranked #13,011 in Travel & Places, #315,965 overall

The translation of books into Haitian Creole can help educate Haiti

Giving money to Haiti is both generous and kind hearted, however why not consider donating something that has the potential to reach everyone in Haiti and that will last forever? Sponsor the translation of a book that's in the public domain into Haitian Creole.

Green Crescent is currently organizing a Haitian Creole translation drive online. If the response is positive, Green Crescent plans to form a dedicated charitable organization for this purpose.

All translated works will be made available online in PDF for all to download and read.

Haitian Creole Language

The Haitian Creole language is still coming into its own. Though originally based on French, Haitian Creole has become a wholly independent language. The overwhelming majority of Haiti's population does not know French and speaks only Haitian Creole. Take the phrase "haitian creole" as an example. In Creole it is translated as "kreyòl ayisyen" while in French it is "créole haïtien". The two languages are as different as Spanish and Italian. In as much, it's essential to broaden the availability of books written in the Creole language.

Haitian Creole Poll

Is it a good form of charity?

While there was a tremendous initial response to the recent earthquake in Haiti, giving has quickly petered out and its not difficult to see why. Corruption has seen funds misappropriated in vast quantities, many NGOs on the island spend vast amounts of money... on themselves with little benefit trickling down to the Haitian people.
