Haiti Metal Art
The result is the greenest of green arts, the chicest of the eco-chic. This cuff bracelet, for example, is made from a used metal oil drum, without the benefit of power tools (unless you have a generator, there's no power in Haiti during the day), so no carbon footprint for these bracelets.
About the process
Here's the way it works: The ends are cut off of the drums, and then straw is placed inside to burn out the residue. Then the artisans go at that clean/ish metal with a hammer and chisel and viola!
