2012 Costume Video contest

Totally Costumes is having a 2012 Costume Video contest and inviting everyone to join in for the chance to win $1000.00.
Your work should be posted as an original video in response to the Totally Costumes Contest Announcement video on YouTube.
The more creative the video, the better the chances of winning.

Deadline for entries is Sept 30, 2012

"Are you looking to create laughs at a public place in your funny costume? Perhaps you are a singing sensation in costume creating your own music video. Or maybe you have that extreme sports competition coming up and you are daring enough to wear it during the event!"

JUDGING: Entries will be judged based on the following criteria:
25% - Costume:
How is the costume being used?
Is the entrant getting into their character and expressive?
Are there any props being used?
What is entrant doing to make their costume stand out?

25% - Location:
How does the location tie into the character?
Where are you willing to wear it (competition, extreme event, sporting event, etc)?
Was it in public? Was there a crowd?

25% - Popularity:
How many views has the video gotten?
Are there a good number of likes?
What sort of comments is it bringing in?
Where is it being talked about?

Creative concept
Production value (Can we see costume and hear dialogue)?

Does it keep viewers watching the entire length of video?

Thrift stores and clothes that are no longer used are great for costumes like these. Have a dress or pair of pants with a stain on one side? Reuse, recycle, repurpose!

Sew together half a girl's shirt and half a boy's shirt. Sew and half of a skirt with one leg of a pair of pants.
Hot gluing or even pinning may work in some cases.

Putting together a half and half costume takes more skill and time than it would take to create a costume where you dress as the opposite gender.

Consider being Lady Gaga as Joe Calderone? Going in a drag outfit? How about being Pat from Saturday Night Live??

Cutting a long enough dress or gown for the She side, you may be able to get away with leaving part of the pants in tact so they can still be worn. Just attach the skirt part of that side of the dress to what remains of that pant leg.

Could you alter half of a shirt or pair of pants? Dye, decorate or bedazzle?

This is a clever idea for a great look to top it all off. Cut a baseball cap or similar hat in half. I've read that you can cut some wigs in half then sew one half to the baseball cap. Be careful that you have enough material to do this. *Also be sure you match the sides correctly, have the ball cap on the side that's the He where the man's clothes are, and the flowy wig on the side that's the She with the women's clothes!

If you have long hair, simply slicking down your hair on one side and flipping your hair to the right or left, leaving it bouncy on the She side is fun and easy.

Have fun with make up and facial hair! Half of a beard and mustache on the He side of your face. On the She side, you may want to apply blush and lipstick, maybe an earring.

Usually this is not a last minute costume idea, but it would be really interesting to hear people's experiences and see images of costumes that you've created in these styles.

Evil twin costumes. Perhaps an easier homemade Halloween costume would be you and your Evil Twin in the style of The Incredible Hulk and Dr. Bruce Banner. Write your own soap opera?

A same-gender half and half costume would be easier to start off making. Have the hair on each side a different color like Morticia Addams and her blonde sister Ophelia? You could do half and half Identical Twin Cousins Patty and Cathy from The Patty Duke Show. This would require much less hair and make up.

Another similar costume is the Upside Down person. Use old clothes, thrift store finds maybe. Alter a large shirt so you can wear it as a pair of pants, legs through the arm holes. Adding a simulated head such as something from a manequin or large doll, or maybe a jackolantern face at the bottom may make it more realistic if a bit tricky to walk! Put an altered pair of pants on top, arms through the leg holes. To cover your head and face, you may simply use a dark hood and make-up. Hold your arms up high to give make it look like someone's walking on their hands!
