Spookify Your Living Room

Bring the scary inside!!

So, you have the gravestones up in the front yard, and the jack-o-lanterns are glowing on the front porch sitting by the scarecrows. You have the creepy music playing and you have your kitchen all decked out for Halloween (I know you have the /www.squidoo.com/halloween-kitchen">kitchen finished, I helped you do it!). So what's left? Oops! Nearly forgot the living room, didn't you? Oh no, how will that ever be done? Don't panic, it's far easier than you think to have an awesome, Halloween ready living room!

First, you need to know how far you want to go. I mean, do you want cobwebs and creepiness everywhere, or will it just be a little bit of spook this year? Either way, you're going to find exactly what you need right here. Take a peek (if you dare!!!).

This is going to be much easier than you think!

And a lot more fun to do!

Don't let the thought of having to decorate your living room for Halloween throw you for a loop. This is the easy part! Unless you plan to film a horror movie or host a haunted house in there, simple is going to be awesome. There are a couple things I think that you have to have no matter what - Halloween candy dish (or dishes) and Halloween candles (no way can you have just one - it's Halloween!). Then, the rest is going to depend on your room.

Start With The Basics

You've got to have some Halloween candy dishes

Whether you keep the mood light, or go seriously scary and creepy, you will be able to find a candy dish to suit your chosen mood for the room. The one I'm highlighting here will actually work with both moods. I'll show you some more option below as well, but this one is my favorite.

Start With The Basics (Part II)

You have to have Halloween candles

Same as with the candy dishes, you can go cool or creepy. This flickering witch is so awesome and she will work for both for you. You honestly can't have a Halloween room without having candles though. And if you don't want to burn candles there are now lots of alternatives that don't have a real flame that you can use (see below).

What About The Furniture?

No, you don't have to go buy an orange couch to use for a month. A themed throw pillow will do the trick. If that isn't enough for you - drape your living room furniture with plain white sheets so it looks like the room is in storage in a creepy old mansion. Super!!

Simple White Sheets

You're not looking for fancy here or to break the bank. You just want a white sheet that will completely cover your furniture pieces. A lower thread count will make for a slightly stiffer sheet and that is what you really want here.

Don't Forget The Mantle

I love having a fireplace mantle. Every holiday I make sure that the mantle gets some awesome decorative touches. And Halloween is no exception. You can adjust the amount to your personal tastes and it will look fabulous with minimal effort. A few candles, a figurine perhaps. Or, how about going all out and getting a magnificently spooky piece of art to hang over it. ((shudder)) Very effective!!

Hang A Spooky Mirror

Want to really change the look of your living room for Halloween? You already have your furniture draped and your candles lit - now, take down that picture off the wall and tuck it safely in a closet until November 1st. Hang this wonderfully creepy mirror in it's place and delight in the shudders of your guests as they walk by it. Mwuhahahahah!

Throw Pillows Help You Throw Creepy Around Your Living Room

If you don't already know it - the secret to decorating is in the details. Now, that's a secret, so don't tell! If you want to make your living room look dressed up for Halloween, change out your throw pillows to fit the holiday or season. Yes, this works for all holidays and seasons, but like I said, it's a secret so keep it to yourself. You have many ready made options, I'll show you some more below, but this one is one of my favorites. I love black cats, so maybe I'm a little biased. Same as what I told you with the candy dishes and candles - pick your theme if you're friendly or scary and then pick the pillows to match your mood.

Simple and Spooky!!

Decorate Your Windows For Halloween

As long as you are getting everything else in your living room set for Halloween, you may as well give the windows some attention. Remembering a detail like this will make your room shine, and make all the other ghosts jealous!! There are a number of creepy options available for you - from using just toppers to compete curtains - I love them all! For my room, I have a sliding glass door, so I just get extra panels. If you don't want to change out the curtains entirely, you can embellish what you have up already. Use some of the spiderweb stuff you can get at craft stores and drape it over the window coverings. You can also use some sheets of crepe paper (black, of course) that you have stretched and distressed and draped over your hardware. No matter which look you choose, I know it will be BOO-tiful!
