Halloween Dessert Party Ideas

Host a Spooktacular Halloween Dessert Party!

If you're throwing the big Halloween bash this year, why not make it unusual? Host a dessert only Halloween party. Offer scrumptious treats that go beyond the usual Trick or Treat candies. Not only will you save yourself the expense of serving a whole dinner, but you'll save time as well. Make some memorable Halloween treats and everyone will be begging you to host again next year.

The Creative Cupcake

Flickr Photo Credit: clarescupcakes.co.ukYou could throw a whole dessert party with nothing but cupcakes. You might want to try it. However, for the most part, you'll probably want to use cupcakes as just one of your dessert options. You can do amazing things with cupcakes. Use red velvet cupcake mix (for a spooky blood-like feel) and ice with white icing. Use black edible glitter to create cats. Use candy corns for the ears and a licorice nose. You can get as creative as you like. If you frost a cupcake white and then drizzle gourmet chocolate around in circles you can draw a toothpick through the chocolate to create a spider web design in the frosting. Then add either an edible gummy spider or a plastic ring spider that guests can remove, wipe off and wear.

The cupcake is the ultimate artist's palate. Take a stroll down the cake decorating aisle at your local crafts store and you will be amazed at the ideas you'll get. Create coconut ghosts, orange frosting pumpkin faces, pretzel stick skeletons and more. All on top of the humble cupcake. Then, arrange them in tiers. You can turn a bowl upside down and place a dinner plate on top for a cupcake stand. Vary the heights of the bowls and you'll have unique display trays.

Eyeballs

There are several ways you can make eyeballs. One of the easiest is to use munchkin donut holes. White powdered ones will work well. On each munchkin, place a Lifesaver with a black jelly bean in the center. Draw on blood vessels with red icing. Place on a tray and watch them disappear.

Spooky Jello

Flickr Photo Credit: emergencyfan2000Perhaps nothing is spookier or more ghastly than a bowl full of brains. And when they're made of Jello, they're tasty good fun. Jello molds now abound in the shape of brains, skulls, fingers, severed body parts and more. You can find them at Halloween stores and online. Mix up a few batches of Jello, let them set and remove from the mold right before the party. It will be a disgustingly good time.

Lady Fingers

Take the idea of the spooky witch's finger a little farther and make them out of Lady Finger cakes. These soft delicacies are easy to cut into the shape of a finger. First taper each little cookie into a finger shape then add red icing for a witch's fingernail or dig out a little oval shape at the end of the "finger" then fill with melted chocolate chips and insert a sliced almond to be the fingernail. Display your Halloween cookies in a cup standing straight up so they look like severed fingers.

Other Boo-tiful Dessert Ideas

Of course all your food items don't have to be ghastly or ghoulish. You can do more of a tasteful, adult smorgasbord as well. Make a Bundt cake in a chocolate flavor and then drizzle orange frosting over it. You'll have a pumpkin shaped cake if you add a stem made of cardboard or a real pumpkin stem. You can also make leaf-shaped cookies and hang them off a Halloween tree display. (Grab a few branches from outside and put them in a planter. String the cookies on ribbon and dangle them from branches for guests to pluck off.) Halloween Caramel Apples are another great idea. You can drizzle chocolate on them to resemble spider webs and decorate with Halloween colored candies. Use your imagination. Have fun with it!

Well I am a HUGE fan of cake, and so I would definitely have to go with that. Of course, I don't think I have the type of stomach that could handle any of the creepy type of snacks but that's just me. Wonderful lens, great job!

I always think of popcorn balls for Halloween - it would be pretty easy to mold them into Halloween shapes or even use a cookie cutter to make scary shapes. The lady fingers freak me out, I don't know if I would be able to eat them!!
