Make Pizza for Your Halloween Party

Pizza makes a great buffet for guests who come over a long period of time, like your trick or treaters who leave and return at different times.

It's easy to have all the fixings ready to use. Stock up on sauce, cheese and other ingredients. Cook the sausage and slice the peppers, then refrigerate until you need them. You can make the dough and refrigerate it as well, or freeze.

Then assemble the pizzas as needed. About 15 minutes later, you're serving a fresh, hot pizza to hungry ghouls, goblins and guests!

Pizza Dough is Easy

Thin or Thick Crust Pizzas Are Yours

Pizza on a pizza stoneHow do you make a thicker or thinner crust? How much flour you use makes a difference, because it influences how much dough you have, and how far it will stretch. More dough on a baking stone or sheet makes a thicker crust. Less makes a thinner crust.

For an average size pizza, about 14 inches in diameter, make a crust with about 2 cups of flour to make a thicker crust. Let it rise for an hour, or perhaps a bit more.

For a thinner crust, use about 1 1/2 cups of flour and stretch your crust thinner.

Make sure to preheat the oven, so that the pizza is exposed to its high heat immediately. Keep a close eye on your pizza, because at 500 degrees, it will finish baking quickly.

Recipe for Pizza Crust

Make One Recipe Per Pizza

Homemade Pizza Dough

1 1/2 to 2 cups flour
(all purpose or bread flour)
2 teaspoons dry yeast

1 teaspoon salt
2/3 cups warm water
1 tablespoon olive oil

Mix dry ingredients, then add water and oil. Mix with a spoon until mixture forms a ball, then knead on a floured surface. Add extra flour as needed to make a smooth, satiny ball, about 10 minutes. Dough will stick together, but not to your hands or the surface. Oil lightly and place back in the mixing bowl. Cover with a clean cloth and let rise in a warm place, for an hour. If desired, let rise in the refrigerator for several hours. Warm to room temperature before stretching.

Make Eating Pizza Easy

Buffet Plates Are a Good Size

Pizza on Pfaltzgraff Buffet PlateBuffet plates are handy size for a slice or two of hot pizza. Stack them alongside your pizza buffet, and let guests serve themselves.

Big enough for a generous serving of pizza. Small enough so as to to be too difficult to handle in a casual setting where guests are sitting on couches or chairs (perhaps watching a scary movie after their evening expedition in search of treats).

These plates work well for buffet or casual dinning all year round.
