Halloween Music for the Family

There is music for every holiday---and Halloween is no exception! Fall is a great time of year to spend some time learning new songs with your children! Sing on the way to school, activities, shopping. They may know more of these than you think they do! Most of all -- have fun, enjoy, sing as if no one is listening!

I included the lyrics to help you teach your children the words.

Watch for special Halloween tips in this lens!

Lyrics The Addams Family

They're creepy and they're kooky,
Mysterious and spooky,
They're all together ooky,
The Addams Family.
Their house is a museum
Where people come to see 'em
They really are a scream
The Addams Family.
(Neat)
(Sweet)
(Petite)
So get a witches shawl on
A broomstick you can crawl on
We're gonna pay a call on The Addams Family.

Halloween Idea

My sister gives Trick or Treaters a choice - a Halloween pencil or a Halloween toy - fake spiders, worms, rings. This keeps the children from receiving so much candy and is a fun surprise when they arrive at her door.

Five Little Pumpkins

Rhyme Five Little Pumpkins - Cullen's abc's

For preschoolers this Halloween themed rhyme works on small hand and finger motor shills. Rhymes are central to building children language skills. Many rhymes and songs are rhythmic and the language is often repetitive, which helps preschoolers build their language skills. Using hand and facial actions with rhymes help children identify words more easily e.g. 'clap your hands'. The best thing about rhymes is that they are free, and can be done anywhere and at anytime! For free ideas to support your child's development at home, free patterns and a short overview video of Cullen's abc's go here: http://www.cullensabcs.com

Five Little Pumpkins Nursery Rhyme

Five little pumpkins sitting on a gate.
The first one said, "oh my it's getting late."
The second one said, "there are witches in the air."
The third one said, "but we don't care!"
The fourth one said, "let's run and run and run."
The fifth one said, "I'm ready for some fun!"
OOOhh OOOhh went the wind
and out went the lights
and the five little pumpkins rolled out of sight.

Lyrics for Have You Seen the Ghost of Tom?

I learned this one at church camp in 1955!

Have you seen the ghost of Tom?
Long white bones with the rest all gone (Have you seen the ghost of Tom?)
Ooo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-ooh (Long white bones with the rest all gone)
Wouldn't it be chilly with no skin on? (Ooo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-ooh)

Pumpkin song for the very young

Just sing this to the tune of Twinkle Twinkle Little Star

Pumpkin pumpkin on the ground
How'd you get so big and round
Planted as a seed so small
Now you are a great big ball
Pumpkin pumpkin on the ground
How'd you get so big and round

Lyrics for One-Eyed, One-Horned Flying Purple People Eater

This is a fun one to teach your children!

Well I saw the thing coming out of the sky
It had one long horn and one big eye
I commenced to shakin' and I said oo-wee
It looks like a purple people eater to me
It was a one-eyed one-horned flying purple people eater
Sure looks good to me

Well, he came down to earth and he lit in a tree
I said Mr Purple People Eater don't eat me
I heard him say in a voice so gruff
I wouldn't eat you 'cos you're too tough
It was a one-eyed one-horned flying purple people eater
It sure looks strange to me

I said Mr Purple People Eater what's your line
He said eating purple people and it sure is fine
But that's not the reason that I came to land
I wanna get a job in a rock 'n roll band
Well, bless my soul rock 'n roll flying' purple people eater
Pigeon-toed under-growed flyin' purple people eater
one-eyed one-horned it was a people eater
What a sight to see!

Well, he swung from the tree and he lit on the ground
he started to rock really rockin' around
It was a crazy ditty with a swinging tune
Wop bop a lula wop bam boom
one-eyes one-horned flying people eater
Ooh, it sure looks strange to me!

Well he went on his way and then what do you know
I saw him last night on a TV show
He was a blowin' it out and really knockin' them dead
Playing rock 'n roll music through the horn in his head!

Monster Mash

Lyrics - Monster Mash

I was working in the lab late one night
When my eyes beheld an eerie sight
For my monster from his slab began to rise
And suddenly to my surprise

CHORUS - (change pronouns (he, they, she) as needed)
He did the mash
He did the monster mash
The monster mash
It was a graveyard smash
He did the mash
It caught on in a flash
He did the mash
He did the monster mash

From my laboratory in the castle east
To the master bedroom where the vampires feast
The ghouls all came from their humble abodes
To get a jolt from my electrodes

REPEAT CHORUS HERE

The zombies were having fun
The party had just begun
The guests included Wolf Man
Dracula and his son

The scene was rockin', all were digging the sounds
Igor on chains, backed by his baying hounds
The coffin-bangers were about to arrive
With their vocal group, "The Crypt-Kicker Five"

REPEAT CHORUS

Out from his coffin, Drac's voice did ring
Seems he was troubled by just one thing
He opened the lid and shook his fist
And said, "Whatever happened to my Transylvania twist?"

REPEAT CHORUS

Now everything's cool, Drac's a part of the band
And my monster mash is the hit of the land
For you, the living, this mash was meant too
When you get to my door, tell them Boris sent you

REPEAT CHORUS

GHOSTBUSTERS
If there's something strange
in your neighborhood
Who ya gonna call?
GHOSTBUSTERS
If there's something weird
and it don't look good
Who ya gonna call?
GHOSTBUSTERS
I ain't afraid of no ghosts
I ain't afraid of no ghosts
If you're seeing things
running through your head
Who can ya call?
GHOSTBUSTERS
An invisible man
sleeping in your bed
Who ya gonna call?
GHOSTBUSTERS

I ain't afraid of no ghosts
I ain't afraid of no ghosts
Who ya gonna call?
GHOSTBUSTERS
If ya all alone
pick up the phone
and call
GHOSTBUSTERS

I ain't afraid of no ghosts
I here it likes the ghost
I ain't afraid of no ghost
Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah
Who ya gonna call?
GHOSTBUSTERS
If you've had a dose of a
freaky ghost baby
Ya better call
GHOSTBUSTERS

Lemme tell ya something
Bustin' makes me feel good!
I ain't afraid of no ghosts
I ain't afraid of no ghosts
Don't get caught alone no no
GHOSTBUSTERS
When it comes through your door
Unless you just want some more
I think you better call
GHOSTBUSTERS
Who ya gonna call?
GHOSTBUSTERS
Who ya gonna call?
GHOSTBUSTERS
I think you better call
GHOSTBUSTERS
Who ya gonna call?
GHOSTBUSTERS
I can't hear you
Who ya gonna call?
GHOSTBUSTERS
Louder
GHOSTBUSTERS
Who ya gonna call?

Who can ya call?

Lyrics - Witch Doctor

I told the witch doctor I was in love with you
I told the witch doctor you didn't love me too
And then the witch doctor, he told me what to do
He said that ....

[Chorus:]
Ooo eee, ooo ah ah ting tang
Walla walla, bing bang
Ooo eee, ooo ah ah ting tang
Walla walla, bing bang...
Ooo eee, ooo ah ah ting tang
Walla walla, bing bang
Ooo eee, ooo ah ah ting tang
Walla walla, bing bang

I told the witch doctor you didn't love me true
I told the witch doctor you didn't love me nice
And then the witch doctor, he game me this advice
He said to ...

[Chorus]

Now, you've been keeping love from me
Just like you were a miser
And I'll admit I wasn't very smart
So I went out and found myself
A guy that's so much wiser
And he taught me the way to win your heart

My friend the witch doctor, he taught me what to say
My friend the witch doctor, he taught me what to do
I know that you'll be mine when I say this to you
Oh, Baby ....

[Chorus]

Great Idea for Your Neighborhood!

Here is how this works. First, you deliver a "ghost named Boo" to your neighbor - with a cute little poem and two treats. You also include another "Boo" and poem for your neighbor. Your neighbor will, hopefully, then reproduce the "Boo" and the Poem, and take two treats to her neighbor! Now, don't get caught! It's all a huge secret! The only way to know if someone has been visited is if they have their "Boo" on their door! Have fun!

Your own "Boo" and poem are below:

This is Boo! He is bearer of Halloween treats! Read instructions!

Boo's Poem

Copy or print and deliver with Boo and your treats!

Boo to You!

The air is cool, the season Fall
Soon Halloween will come to all.

The spooks are after things to do
In fact,a spook brought this to you!

"Boo" is a shield from witching hour
Just hang it up and watch its power

On your front door is where it works
It wards off spooks and scary jerks

The treats that came with cryptic note
Are yours to keep -- enjoy them both!

The power comes when friends like you
Will copy this and make it TWO!

Then others here among our friends
Will give warm fuzzies that will not end

We'll all have smiles upon our face
No one will know who Boo'd whose place!

Just one sure day to work your spell
Or a big "ZAP" will strike your tail.

And don't forget a nifty treat
like something cute or something sweet!

Please join the fun; let's really hear it!
And spread some Boo's and Halloween Spirit!

Author Unknown! This little tradition has been passed from neighborhood to neighborhood for years!

Thanks to Lensmaster, my sister, Ohme!
