Halloween Wedding Garters

A Wedding Tradition of wearing something blue: Blue represents faithfulness, loyalty and purity. Usually the garter tends to be chosen as the blue item.

This is a custom I found on a site when I was doing research. An old British ritual was called "flinging the stocking" and the first guest to throw the stocking and hit either the bride or groom on the nose was next to be married.

Back in the 14th century, it was customary for the brides to toss their garter to the men. But sometimes the men became too drunk and would become impatient; trying to take the garter off of the bride ahead of time. So to be less trouble the bride began to toss her bouquet.

You know the saying; "Something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue" began back in the Victorian Era. Something Old-represents the bond to the bride's family and her old life. Something New-represents the couple's new life and future hope for happiness. Something Borrowed-is from a married woman is meant to impart similar happiness to the bride and Something blue-represents fidelity and constancy.
