Amazing Halloween Wreaths

Creating a Georgous Halloween Wreath for Your Front Door

Halloween is one holiday that lives you a chance to get really creative, and a bit silly, in your decorating. A Halloween wreath on your front door is a must have.

While some put up one fall wreath for the whole season, I like to put up a new one each month. During October, I must have a Halloween wreath - not just a harvest one. After all, Christmas may be known for it's beautiful wreaths, but on Halloween you'll have lots of people knocking on your door.

These are some creative, fun, and beautiful ideas for Halloween wreaths.

Halloween Chevron Wreath

Halloween Chevron WreathThis wreath is modern, clean and a ton of fun. When better to decorate in this gorgeous zig-zag pattern than Halloween?

Using the limited colors - black, white, and orange, keeps this wreath simple and sleek.

The simple bat garland, positioned again in a zig-zag, brings the black down into the wreath. You could also use a garland with witches on brooms.

If you have a white door, consider making the wreath out of orange and black chevron fabric, with a bright green and black chevron fabric.

Monster Fur Wreath

Monster Fur WreathThis wreath is one of my very favorites. It has taken on a life of its own and is no longer simply a wreath, but rather a living creature that happens to be shaped like a wreath. It's just so fun!!!

Here are the instructions for monster fur wreath. This how-to does require sewing, however you can make this wreath without sewing by using a styrofoam wreath and covering it with the fur by pinning or gluing the fur to the back.

Choose a wild and amazing fur for your wreath that would look great with the color of your door.

Candy Corn Halloween Wreath

Candy Corn Halloween WreathNothing says Halloween better than candy corn!

This wreath uses real candy corn to make a beautiful and clean wreath. The colors are so vibrant!

The key to this wreath is to seal the candies after it is made. You don't want it to melt in the sun, sog in the rain, or attract a world of insects to your front door.

Halloween Ribbon Wreath

Ribbon Loops in Halloween Colors

Halloween Ribbon WreathThis fun ribbon wreath is bright and cheery. And what crafter hasn't gone through a ribbon phase at some point? Dig thrrough your ribbon box (I know you've got one) and I'm sure you'll find a few great ones that will give you a start for this fantastic wreath.

stick with a Halloween color and try to stick simple geometric designs. You don't need a bunch a ribbons with pumpkins and ghosts on them to say Halloween. Stick to colors like orange, green, purple, black, white, and yellow.

White Mummy Wreath

Mummy wreathThis wreath is SO COOL! It's so disheveled and a bit unraveled - as every great Halloween mummy is, however it's stark white color makes it curiously elegant. Check out some more photos of this wreath here.

I love how the mummy hands give it such a creepy feel.

This wreath would be quite stylish and interesting on a brightly colored or a black door.

Here is another mummy wreath that creates the mummy look not with the mussy cheesecloth, but with a more structured fabric tied in an interesting way.

Do you make your own door wreaths, or do you prefer to buy them?

I make my own wreaths.

iijuan12 says:

I actually don't make them. I let my kids make them. They love doing stuff like that!

KonaGirl says:

I do both. I usually make them, but if I see something spectacular at a craft fair, I'll buy it.

teriann says:

I prefer making my own for sure. Enjoy it too much to let someone else unless I'm swapping labor.

Mickie_G says:

Heck, I am all about doing something myself!

genglo says:

My Mother-in-Law makes beautiful wreaths for us.

I usually buy them.

AnnaleeBlysse says:

I have created wreaths before, but it isn't a habit.

vikksimmons says:

Not any more but there was a time....

TheCureForYouthMinistry says:

we buy them, but making them would be cool.

mothersdayflowersmacon says:

buy them, I am a bit lazy when it comes to things like that.

jaredsgirl says:

I buy them, but only because I'm limited on time with two kiddos and a full time job. However, I'd love to learn how to make them!

Black Feather Wreath

A black feather wreath gives that creepy allusion to the raven or a black owl.

You can buy a feather wreath, or you can make your own. Check your local discount stores for cheap feather boas. I have even seen some at the dollar store. While they may not be great quality as a boa, they are great for wrapping around a wreath.

Halloween Googly Eye Wreath

Googly Eye Now this one is a little more an unexpected! This wreath is totally covered in googly eyes - big and little.

In addition to the front door, this would look great on the office door of a manager or the security office, or even on a classroom or principal's door.

Use whatever fabric scraps you have for the "I'm Watching You" sign, and a ribbon that would match well. You don't have to stick with black and white, but I would only add one or two other colors to let the eyes be the focus.

Phone Book Paper Wreath

Phone book paper wreathThere are a bunch of reasons to love this wreath.

  • The first is that it is made of paper torn from a phone book. Millions of phone books have been delivered over the years creating a huge amount of waste, why not re-purpose this paper?
  • Using phone book paper makes this project very cheap to make. You could also simply use a copy of the newspaper.
  • You can get the kids involved in this one by helping you paint the paper. They can use brushes, sponges, fingers, whatever.

Paper Halloween WreathTaking off and running with the phone book paper wreath idea will lead you to this variation. It just goes to show you that you can adapt any idea you see online to fit with your aestitic.

Here a simple change in colors - black and blood red rather than black, orange and yellow - gives the wreath a completely different emotion.

Where this wreath features the flowers, I could just as easily see it with a bloody (plastic) meat cleaver. (Yeah, uh, please don't hang a real knife on your front door - it just makes it too easy for the serial killers).

Owl Wreath

Owl WreathThis is one of those wreaths that doesn't scream Halloween, but gives you that spooky "I'm watching you" type feel.

This handsome owl will watch over your yard and scare off any unwanted guests.

Put a realistic looking witch's broom by the door and the owl will look like it just might be a witch's familiar.

I love how this wreath can decorate a home for Halloween without looking like a Halloween decoration. It just looks spooky.

Spiderweb Butterfly & Berries

Butterfly wrapped Halloween wreathI love this modern clean wreath that still incorporates the berries that I love on wreaths.

A butterfly seems like an unexpected element on a Halloween wreath, but by making a butterfly on black paper decorated with a spider web, it just works.

This is another example of a Halloween wreath that doesn't scream "Halloween", but doesn't hide from it either.

More Yarn Wrapped Wreaths

Spiders on yarn wreathWrapping a wreath with yarn is a great way to get a beautiful base for a wreath that you can add a few Halloween accents to. The key to making a great yarn wrapped wreath is to have the end result in mind, and to wrap the wreath with that in mind. Don't just wrap it plainly in all one color, Use two or more colors, or wrap it in a certain pattern.

Eyeball Wreath

Ping Pong Eye Ball WreathThis eyeball wreath is more traditional than the fur eyeball wreath, but no less fun.

Using black leaves on the wreath gives it the familiar foliage harvest wreath look, but touched with a bit of zombie mayhem. The veiny eyeballs look great on the wreath.

Shabby Canvas Wreath

Shabby Canvas WreathWhat I like about this wreath is that it's simple and you can make it with what you've got.

The painter's canvas this wreath is made with looks great, but if your door is the same color, you can use any fabric. Look through your bin of scrap fabrics and you might have something perfect.

Also, it is very versatile, in that you can make the rosettes with scraps, or you can feature something else there. You can feature flowers, or spiders or anything interesting there. Here is a great video tutorial for making the fabric rosettes.

Here is a similar wreath that uses a few different printed fabrics, and therefore doesn't need to add anything further.

Purple Spider Wreath

Halloween purple spider wreath with glitterI love purple for Halloween. Sometimes you just hit your limit of orange, ya know?

This wreath with it's glittery spider is so fun! With the purple and a hint of pink, it would be perfect for the door of a girl's room.

If spider's aren't up your alley, add a witch's hat, a bat, a witch's boot, or a gorgeous purple ghost.
