18th Century Pirates Halloween Costumes

Of course, nobles aren't the sole individuals worth copying from the 18th century when it comes to Halloween costumes.

During those 100 years there were pirates sailing the seas and and then robbing ships of diverse fleets blind.

The pirate lifestyle was studied not long ago further in the film Pirates of the Carribean and the results that came with it and for this reason pirate outfits are really appreciated in the present day.

One of the times of history that was indeed lucrative for pirates was indeed the 18th century and there are hundreds of history books that contain paintings of pirate dress from this particular period.

Here are a few well known pirates:

  • Olivier Levasseur
  • Hornigold
  • Owel Davis
  • David Williams
and many more!

I love the look of the American Revolution, and also the charm of the old South from before the Civil War.

I'm passionate of History and I've always dreamed of wearing a wonderful, luxurious costume of a countess or a marquess... but my costumes were made at home and I even once featured the Little Red Riding Hood :)

18th Century Revolutionary Halloween Costume

The 18th century a time of revolution as well.

During those 100 years there was the French Revolution and of course the American Revolution that led in the birthing of the American United States. These revolutions bring about the opportunity of many superb historically precise costumes.

You could dress up as a member of the "third state", a Founding Father of the United States or why not a Redcoat Soldier from Britain with an old time firearm that was used during that period of time.

The 18th century historical events and in particular the revolutions should give you a lot of ideas for costumes if you are wanting to get something done.

Some interesting revolutionary characters:

  • Charlotte Corday who killed Marat,
  • General Lafayette (also called the fair-haired boy by the queen)
  • Robespierre
  • Danton
  • Mrs Roland
  • General Richard Montgomery
  • George Washington
  • James Madison
  • John Adams
  • Deborah Samson
And, why not choosing the costume of Sanson de Longval. This character wasn't a revolutionary one but as the Paris exectioner, he guillotined many nobles - even while being noble himself. After having killed the king Louis XVI, he told the revolutionary tribunal he wouldn't accept to kill anyone else. Unfortunately, the revolutionary tribunal obliged him to continue his awful job otherwise they would have killed the entire family of Sanson de Longval. After the Revolution, Sanson never worked any more.executioner and guillotined many nobles), many more!
