Halloween Kung Fu Panda Costumes

Unlike the film, Kung Fu Panda the videogame on the Nintendo Wii is a rather frustrating outing. The storyline (just as in the film) revolves around Po, a giant panda who has been chosen to defeat the evil snow leopard Tai Lung. Whilst the game mainly follows the film's plot, there are a number of unexpected events that diverge from the film and often result in more trouble than good.

Halloween is coming right now. Get a Halloween costumes as soon as possible.

The game is split up into levels, and basically involves players going from point A to B. Levels are well structured, but are regularly undermined by other game play elements such as the enemies, puzzles, quick-time events, boss battles and even poor imitations of Sonic the Hedgehog sequences. For the majority of the game, players can advance through these levels by repeatedly pressing the B button for Po's fast attack. This attack easily disposes of any enemy (including bosses) so quickly that any form of strategy which may have existed is removed from the game. In between levels players are given the option to upgrade Po's attacks, health and special moves, and whilst all this is a neat idea, unfortunately these upgrades have no notable effect on Po's performance. This means players can continue using the regular B attack to defeat enemies.

The only time when the B button is ineffective is during the occasional and extremely frustrating quick-time events. These quick-time events make use of the Wii Remote motion sensor. The problem, though, is that the game does not register the Wii Remote's movement properly, and this makes these quick-time events a painful experience. Use of the Wii Remote's motion sensor in Kung Fu Panda has not been correctly incorporated - a perfect example of this is the section of the game that sees Po rolling around as a ball. During this section the game does not respond to nun chuk movement as it should, which makes it seem like a Sonic title gone horribly wrong.

Multiplayer in Kung Fu Panda is passable. Players can select from a collection of mini-games such as fighting, memory and co-operative ones. This section in particular will entertain the younger audiences, but for older players they are better off with the established franchises.

The visuals in Kung Fu Panda are a strong point of the game. The character models, for example, have individual hairs over their entire bodies. This kind of detail brings characters to life, and gives them a close resemblance to their film counter-parts. As for the environments, they may not look as fantastic as the characters, but they still hold up well, and a notable mention goes to both the shadow and lighting, which are impressive during particular sections of the game. The camera functions properly in both the indoor and outdoor areas, unlike so many other platformers nowadays. For some reason there are frame rate issues, but this is most-likely due to the poor game design.

The musical backings and the sound effects are the biggest flaw of the Kung Fu Panda game. The music attempts to remain relaxed throughout the game in order to capture a "Kung Fu mood", but fails miserably. Also, even at its loudest the sound can rarely be heard properly. Then there are entire sections of the game that do not even have any music, most notably the many boss battles which are played out in silence. The one positive aspect of the sound is the characters' voice, which are identical to the film's. It is clear from the lack of music and dodgy sound effects that sound was never a high priority in the development of Kung Fu Panda.

Although Kung Fu Panda is a playable game, the frustrating controls, repetitive objectives, non-effective upgrades and lack of music creates a painful gaming experience. Those in search of an enjoyable platformer with multiplayer on the side are better off looking elsewhere, as this game is another typical movie tie-in that will barely be able to entertain the kiddies.
