Halo Wars: UNSC vs. Covenant
Combat in Halo Wars is balanced by a "rock-paper-scissors" mechanic common in many real-time strategy titles. Ground vehicles are powerful against infantry, infantry is stronger against aircraft, and aircraft are exceptional at destroying vehicles. Each unit has a special ability accessed by using the Y button; for example, human Marines throw grenades while vehicles called Warthogs run over enemies. (read more)

What is your impression of the Halo Wars Demo?
Real-time strategy games have a pretty spotty record when they show up on consoles. Coming up with a control scheme that lets players quickly manage and deploy units and resources has been a constant challenge. Ensemble Studios is well aware of that potential problem, and its Halo Wars game is being built from the ground up for the 360. With any luck, that focus will create a game worthy of the Halo name.
So what do you think, will Halo Wars work on the Xbox 360?

I have bought the game, and it blew my mind. I didn't expect it to be so good. Just wish you could play as the flood, or for them to throw in some new races. But seeing as how you can be the Covenant or the Human UNSC it's not that bad.

Just started playing Halo Wars. It reminds me of Dark Reign 1 & 2 on the PC except the graphics are, of course, better on the X Box. However I don't think the control is as good as Dark Reign. In the battle phases it's difficult to separate your forces and assign particular units to specific tasks. It just feels like you have to batter the enemy with overpowering numbers and it's difficult to employ any kind of strategy.... I'm really disappointed !!!! Ensemble could have done so much more with this. I expected the game to be a Super Dark Reign but found confusion and poor game play. Sorry Ensemble but you've blown it.

My 3 main concerns with the game are:
1. There really isn't much strategy to it. You simply try to overwhelm the enemy army at one point on the map.
2. The units are not balanced. I built one jackal and never built one again because of how bad they were.
3. The AI is terrible. Simple as that.

- A demo for Halo Wars will be hitting Xbox LIVE on February 5, a few weeks before its release, which is confirmed for Mar 3 in America, and Feb 27 for the EU.
- What kind of multiplayer will Halo Wars have?
- The game will support online multiplayer action over Xbox Live for up to six players. Even more exciting for fans of co-op -- my multiplayer mode of choice -- is that the game will include a campaign mode for two players.
- Will Halo Wars be released for PC or the Wii?
- No. Microsoft has dismissed rumours suggesting Halo Wars is coming to the PC or the Wii. The game's executive producer, Harter Ryan, was even more blunt about the issue. "There will be no PC port," he said at the time.

Console gamers don't want games that "you've got to think about too much." says one veteran game developer. What do you think? Ensemble Studios certainly is hoping that this isn't the case because they are hoping to establish the strategy genre on the Xbox 360.
