Experience the story of Halo
I'm relatively new to the world of XBox, and Halo in particular. As someone who loves stories, I wanted to know more about the story of Halo, but there wasn't much info out there for beginners. So I decided to make a lens about everything I learnt.
I know there must be others out there as well who want to know more about Halo before they buy a copy for someone else, especially their kids.

The Halo story
Combat Evolved
You play Halo as "Master Chief" (also called "John"), a super-soldier on board the spaceship "Pillar of Autumn". As the game begins your ship comes across the "Halo", which is a ring in space. The ship's captain is captured by "The Covenant", a race of beings that humans have been at war with for years.Master Chief and an Artificial Intelligence called Cortana are able to escape in a craft and land on Halo. Cortana discovers that the Covenant have released creatures called "The Flood", which are parasites.
343 Guilty Spark, another AI, tells you that in order to stop The Flood, you have to retrieve "The Index" and activate Halo. But Cortana finds out that activating Halo's defense mechanism will kill all life all around the Halo vicinity of space.
Now you have to find a way of destroying Halo before 343 Guilty Spark can activate it.

Who is Master Chief?
His full title is Master Chief Petty Officer John-117. In The Fall of Reach, when he is a child, he is among a group of children secretly kidnapped and trained to become a cybernetically enhanced supersoldier called a "Spartan-II". Their mother-figure is Dr Catherine Halsey, who invented the program and organised the kidnapping.Human worlds are being invaded by The Covenant, and the Spartans are sent into battle.

Who is Cortana?
Cortana is an artificial intelligence entity, who is downloaded into Master Chief's armor because the ship The Pillar of Autumn might be compromised when they reach the Halo.Some of Dr Catherine Halsey's brain tissue was used as a base for creating Cortana's brain system. Cortana can learn and grow, but she will die after seven years.

Halo Books
The Fall of Reach is the prequel to Halo, Combat Evolved. It gives you the background to the game in story form.
The Flood is the story of Combat Evolved, which clarifies the game.
First Strike is the story in between Combat Evolved and Halo 2.

Halo 2
The Covenant are about to attack Earth's defenses. Master Chief and Commander Miranda Keyes of the ship In Amber Clad follow one of the Covenant ships and discover a second Halo.
Master Chief's mission is to kill the Covenant High Prophet of Regret, while Commander Keyes' mission is to obtain the Index to prevent activation of the Delta Halo.
But the Covenant Commander from Combat Evolved has become the Arbiter. And Master Chief will also meet Gravemind, the leader of the Flood.
Who is Miranda Keyes?
Commander Miranda Keyes is the captain of the ship In Amber Clad. In Halo Combat Evolved, the captain of the ship Pillar of Autumn is Captain Jacob Keyes, who was Miranda Keyes' father.On Delta Halo, Miranda is known by Guilty Spark as a Reclaimer, meaning she can retrieve the Index.
Who is The Arbiter?
The commander of the Covenant is made Arbiter by the High Prophets, as a form of punishment for not preventing the destruction of the Halo, which is sacred to the Covenant. They send the Arbiter on missions where they expect him to die, but he survives.Then he is sent to retrieve the Index (they call it the Sacred Icon) from Delta Halo.

Who is Guilty Spark?
343 Guilty Spark is an artificial intelligence that was left to monitor the Halo and keep the Flood under containment. He is supposed to activate the destruction of Halo should the Flood ever breach containment.The Covenant call him the Oracle, but he was made by the Forerunners, who were humans.
Who is Gravemind?
Gravemind is the collective conscious "leader" of the Flood. It is Gravemind who reveals to the Arbiter that the activation of the Halo is a destruction purpose, and not the Covenant's believed Sacred Ring which will open a gateway to their salvation.Gravemind believes that assimilation into the Flood is perfection, and fighting it is a sin.
