Hamilton county in Central Indiana was named after Alexander Hamilton who served as the first Treasurer of the United States and is best known for his famous duel with Aaron Burr the Vice President of the United States.

Located just north of Indianapolis, Hamilton County offers many activities and places to visit while you are here. An ongoing ad campaign for the county is "Eight Great Towns in One Destination". We offer several golf courses, shopping, a living history museum, a covered bridge and so much more.

Conner Prairie in Hamilton County Indiana

A Living History Museum and Park

Recreating Indiana life in the 19th century, Conner Prairie has the original home of William Connor on the White River.

There are several sections of the park that create a sort of history time line for the area.

William Conner house built in 1823 where Conner and his wife Elizabeth lived with their 10 children. The house served as a meeting place for County Commissioners, Circuit Court, and was a post office for a time.

1886 Liberty Corner has a schoolhouse, Quaker meeting house, authentic covered bridge, and a farm.

1836 Prairietownwith a blacksmith shop, pottery shop, inn, doctor's office, schoolhouse, and several residences.

Lenape Camp with bark and cattail mat wigwams, a fur trade camp, and log cabin.

Conner Prairie can be a full day of fun while learning history.

Noblesville, Indiana

Historical County Seat

Noblesville is rich in history which began in 1818 when the US government bought the land from the Indians of the area. William Conner was the only white settler in the area at the time and laid out the downtown area in 1823 with Josiah Polk.

The small city has a quaint charm with historical buildings and residences with the courthouse square being the center of downtown.

The Indiana Transportation Museum gives train rides and history of the railroads in Indiana.

Potter's Bridge is a covered bridge just north of downtown.

Noblesville is also the home of the Verizon Wireless Music center where concerts are performed during the summer months.

Antique shops like the Noblesville Antique Mall and other shopping opportunities promise a great time spent in the city.

Carmel Indiana - Hamilton County City

Hamilton County offers the city of Carmel as a lovely place to visit. The newly created Arts and Design District in Old Town Carmel offers art galleries, an antique mall, shopping, and dining for all.

Quickly becoming known as the "round about" capital, Carmel has been innovative in saving energy by doing away with costly traffic lights and installing the traffic circle.

During your visit, be sure to come into the antique mall on Main Street and introduce yourself. You will find me there most days managing the facility, helping customers, and mentoring the dealers. I'll be sure to give you directions to any place you want to visit.

If camping is your favorite thing to do, Hamilton County offers a few choices of campgrounds for you to stay in as you wander our county in central Indiana.

Old Overdorf Lake located in Arcadia is a wonderful place if fishing is also one of your favorite pastimes.

White River Campground located in Cicero offers a clean campsite with electrical hookups and tent camping available. Rent a canoe and travel on the White River in Hamilton County.

River Bend Campground located in Noblesville offers 28 acres with modern facilities and a family oriented atmosphere. The picture at the right is at River Bend.

Sleepybear Campground also located in Noblesville is close to the Verizon Wireless concert center and is used by many when coming to a big concert event like Phish.

    Well I've been to Noblesville alot and never knew there was a covered bridge! I'll have to check it out next time I'm there. Nice lens! I'm bookmarking it for my kids to read w/ their Indiana State History unit.

    This really looks like a nice quiet place to visit. I love not having to fight tourists and traffic. Just beautiful! I love covered bridge too.
