Love Firefly / Serenity and Nathan Fillion's portrayal of Capt. Malcolm Reynolds was awesome, but let's all be honest, without Harrison Ford's Capt. Han Solo, there is no Capt. Reynolds.

Han Solo has not only been around longer but has appeared in three movies, several comics, and a long list of novels; Solo has also been used as a guide line when creating other major characters, like Reynolds and Lone Starr (BIll Pullman; Spaceballs)

Malcolm Reynolds has only appeared in 13 TV episodes, one movie, several comics, and one novel (which was based off the movie).

Tough call. Han Solo smuggled the Princess and the Savior of the Rebellion; Malcolm Reynolds smuggled secret weapon River Tam. Both had terrific sidekicks, but Han Solo did all his smuggling with one wookie whereas Reynolds needed a pilot, a first officer, an engineer, a hired gun, etc. Gonna go with SOLO on this one.

I can't say no to Star Wars. No matter the acting, it is just so endearing and amazing. Ford may not have been at his peak acting as him, but it doesn't matter. I just... Star Wars. Han Solo. Absolutely.

Like everything else in Star Wars, Han Solo just doesn't seem real. He may be the "perfect" sci-fantasy smuggler, but that is for the Star Wars universe.
Malcolm, however, feels very real. He may not have as many novels, comics, etc, as Solo yet; but I feel like i could run into a Malcolm Reynolds on the street.

The real Malcolm says:

Reynolds is more nuanced, more realistic, more capable... the character is more powerful in almost every aspect.
Simply put - he's a better captain.
Solo is pretty good... but we've seen Reynolds do more under much worse conditions.
