Hanbok, the traditional Korean national costume, has its roots dated way back in the Joseon Dynasty. It mainly represents one of the most important aspects of Korean culture. It is composed of a bolero style blouse (jeogori), long skirt (chima) and uniquely proportioned.

Like any fashion, Hanbok designs underwent many changes all throughout Korea's turbulent history. Hanbok's form, materials and designs provide a glimpse into Korean lifestyle, its colors indicate the values and world view of the Korean people.

The term "Hanbok" are traditional Korean clothing and adornments, comes from the abbreviated of the term Han-guk pokshik meaning Korean attire. Its another interesting feature is the old-age tradition of using symbolic purposes.

White colored Hanboks wore by the peasants and commoners except during festivals and special occasions like weddings.

Bright colored dresses wore by upper classes that indicate the wearer's social status.

Yellow and red color combination dresses wore by unmarried woman.

Pink garment supposed to wore by the bride's mother.

Blue colored garment often wore by the groom's mother.

Women's wore a top long blouse-like (jeogori) with long sleeves while the men wear much longer and stretchable down to the waist. Various accessories such as foot gear, jewelry, and headdresses or hair pins completed the outfit. Noticeable, the women wear skirts (chima) while men wear baggy pants (paji) and overcoat (durumagi).

Samo
- A hat worn together with a robe (dalleyong) by officials as everyday clothes.



Gat
- A type of hat worn by men in the Joseon Dynasty. It was worn with a gown (po) by officials outside their homes.



Nambawi
- A winter cap worn by both men and women to cover the forehead, upper neck, and ears. Also called pungdaengi.



Bokgeon
- A type of hat worn by men in the Joseon Dynasty. It was worn with po by officials outside their homes.



Hogeon
- Headgear worn by boys in the late Joseon Dynasty and the period of modernization. It is similar to bokgeon, but the crown of the head is open and patterns of ears, eyes, and beards are embroidered to show a tiger design. It was usually worn with obangjang durumagi, jeonbok, or sagyusam.



Jokduri
- A type of crown worn by women to complete a ceremonial dress. It was usually worn together with wonsam (a bride's long overcoat). Hard paper and cotton filling are covered with silk, and a cloisonne ornament is placed on the top.



Hwagwan
- A crown worn by women to complete a ceremonial dress.



Jobawi
- A winter cap for women. It is open on the top, and its sides are rounded to fully cover the ears. It was generally made in black silk with tassels hanging on the front and back.
