HAND CRANK FLASHLIGHTS FOR EMERGENCIES OR CAMPING

Who should have a hand crank flashlight? With weather unpredictable, everyone needs an emergency kit. Power outages occur during bad weather and sometimes in good weather. Having a hand crank flashlight in your emergency kit is an essential that will give you peace of mind.

Many hand crank flashlights can also be powered by batteries which is great. However, I have learned the hard way (Hurricane Alicia and Hurricane Ike) that if the power is off for an extended period of time, those batteries will die! During the last lengthy power outage (Ike), many stores were closed and when they opened, there was not a battery in sight. I am now the proud owner of both a hand crank flashlight and a hand crank radio with built-in flashlight.

For campers, a hand crank flashlight and a hand crank radio are absolute necessities. If the batteries fail and you're in a remote area, the situation can be unpleasant and dangerous.

ANY EXPERIENCE WITH POWER OUTAGES?

If you live in an area prone to hurricanes, you have experienced a power outage. Hurricane Ike left me without power for eight days and others in the Houston area suffered much longer. You can't make a power outage "normal" but you can be ready with some emergency gear. And, of course, most of this equipment can also be used on camping trips.
