Here's what to look for:

Quality of Material: You're looking for poor quality in materials, like 'pleather' instead of leather, uneven colors, or irregularity.

Nameplates and Logos: If you like a particular bag or designer, before you buy become very familiar with the location(s) and display of the nameplate and/or logo. A fake nameplate or logo would be blurry, misspelled, or off in some way.

Stitching: You are looking for smooth even stitching. Loose or missing stitches (espcially is something is glued) is a sure sign of a ripoff

Odd Styling: If you see a bag offered in colors or styles originally not on the market they may claim it's "rare", but it's just fake

Authenticity: Most designer bags have paperwork or documents verifying it's authenticity.

Damage: Scuffs, Tears, and scratches are all things that would never be permitted to be sold under any circumstance

Cost:: A bag being sold for 10-20% of it's original retail price is most certainly a counterfeit or fake

Location: To keep demand high designer usually limit shipping to 3 of the same design per location. If you see someone selling 10 or more of the same design - they are most likely knockoff or fake bags.
