 The handbag is one of the most important fashion accessories of all. Most ladies would not dream of leaving the house without one, just as a man always carries his wallet.

 Where the wallet is usually out of sight, safely stowed away, the handbag is out there, for all the world to see. So it attracts a lot of attention, and must look the part. We put a lot of thought into the design, and structure of our range of handbags, shoulder bags, totes and purses. All of our products are handmade, as opposed to the cheap, mass produced fare currently flooding the market. We use only handwoven cotton and hemp fabric for the outer covering ( all lined with machine made cotton )

We now design and produce our own line of handcrafted silk handbags!

Most of the "silk" bags and purses on sale these days are mass produced using synthetic "silk" fabric, woven on mechanical weaving looms in an industrial setting.

We handcraft our own designs, using genuine handwoven silk fabric, produced in the traditional manner. Because the pieces of silk we use to make our bags are unique, so too is the finished product, with no 2 bags being alike.

Our latest model is named "Mia", after our friend's daughter. We now have 3 bags named after her daughters, including Chelsea and Rhiannon.



"Mia" is a lovely handbag, featuring different patterns on either side of the bag, stylish chrome steel handles, and a cotton lining with a handy zip pocket.

We buy our fabrics from the people who do the weaving, usually in small villages in northern Thailand, so we know the money we spend is going straight into the local economy, not into the pocket of some greedy middleman. This is very important to us, and is the only way we will do business here. When the cotton ( or hemp ) is ready we take it to the people who make our bags for us, a local family, who work in their home.

 

We find more and more customers are seeking handmade products nowadays, and like the idea of owning a bag which is unique. Most of our bags are a "one of", because of the way they are made. In fact, we would find it hard to produce a large number of bags or scarves which all looked the same. But we are not interested in that market anyway.

Below are just some of the many different types of hemp fabric we use to make our handbags, shoulder bags, totes and purses. The rolls we use are 12" - 14" wide and up to 30 feet long, which are ideal for making bags etc. Wider rolls are available, they are 1 yard wide. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This beautiful stone washed cotton is hand woven in Myanmar, then the stone washing is carried out in Thailand. We use it for making handbags and shoulder bags but because it is so soft it would be perfect for making clothing and scarves. We have just released a new addition to our ever growing range of handcrafted fashion accessories, from northern Thailand.

This pretty little "mini-handbag" comes from Chiang Mai, is handmade from split bamboo, and is both unusual and attractive. It has a triangular shape which allows it to stand alone, and can be folded flat (collapsed) when not in use. The Chiang Mai "Bamboo" Mini-Handbag is lined with cotton fabric with inside pocket, has a handy loop and button closer, and comes in a wide range of patterns and colors. There are 2 sizes, the larger one is 12.5 " long, 4.5" wide, and is 6" tall, not including the wooden handles. The smaller size is 9" long, 4.5" wide, and is 5" tall, not including the wooden handles. The smaller size bag is also available with longer, woven straw handles. Both bags are available on both a retail, and a wholesale basis, and can be seen in the Bags section of our Lanna Charm website.

We recently added some beautiful mango wood products, vases, bangles and candle holders, to our ever growing
range of home decor accessories.

Mango wood vases are my personal favorite, there seems to be an unlimited range of sizes, styles, shapes, designs and colors on show.

We thought visitors may like an insight into the production of these amazing works of art. They begin as a log brought in from the mango plantations, are rough shaped on a very basic lathe, then are kiln dried and finally turned into the amazing creations that the north of Thailand is famous for.

The carving of patterns, painting, sanding and staining is all done by hand. They really are handcrafted works of art.

( The lids are made in the same manner. ) They were originally made to store sticky rice in, to keep it fresh and clean. Some restaurants in Thailand still serve their sticky rice in these containers. They are surprisingly light considering how sturdy their construction. The lids simply push on, and are held in place by knotting the carry cord. Our bamboo rice containers are available in a wide range of shapes, sizes, colors and designs, and look great around the home, and are one of the most useful items of home decor you will find. The designs include traditional Buddha images, floral motifs, banana leaf and lotus leaf styles, geometric patterns and the beautiful "Lanna" language scripts. Water and oil sits in the bowl on top, candle goes inside to heat the liquid. Celadon is a term for ceramics denoting both a type of glaze and a ware of a specific color, also called celadon. This type of ware was invented in ancient China, primarily in Zhejiang Province. Celadon has since been spread to various regions in Asia, including northern Thailand.
