Here is the latest polymer clay flower creation that needs a new home. The flower is made of red clay with purple shading and measures 2.5"L x 2.5"W. The necklace itself is 25"L and is made of handmade wire links of faux pearls, and red and purple glass beads. There are also three dangling strands which measure up to 3" long. Matching earrings have a 1" drop.

Now that we've accomplished our move from Florida to North Carolina, I'm again finding time to get creative with beads and wire. Lately, I've been focusing a lot on utilizing copper wire in different gauges in my beaded designs.

While I still love paying with my polymer clay and creating unique beads with that medium, I am also learning to absolutely love all the variations I can bring to jewelry by changing up wire gauges and using new wire weaving techniques.

Here's an example of what can be done using a heavy gauge solid copper wire to make my own chain links and matching the handmade chain with a unique woven wire free form pendant. I added two small black teardrop beads to add a little bit of extra and, voila!

A designer necklace that no one else except for you will ever wear! I don't make doubles or duplicates, although I will create "similars" at times.

Handmade beaded jewelry, it doesn't always have to be expensive!

I've been on a polymer clay and wired kick for the past few months, so it was fun to get back to some basic handmade beaded jewelry for a morning. Here's a basic pendant necklace that just glows and shimmers as the light hits the blues and greens that make up this beauty.

The pendant measures 1 5/8" wide (and long, of course) and is strung on a 26" length of clear filament (50 pound weight). It is finished off with silver findings and a silver plated lobster clasp. For the pendants safety and security, THREE large silver jump rings were used to keep the pendant in place.

This is a simple necklace that pops with color and style and can be dressed up or down.

Very affordable at only $30.

While the pendant makes this whole necklace pop, the variety of blue, green, and silver beads bring it all together.

So many people think of "beads" as small round colored orbs that come mostly in glass, plastic, and wood.

That is such a bad misconception!

"Beads" in all their glory can be any shape under the sun! Including sun shaped beads!

Focal beads, especially, tend to be in irregular shapes and colors whose main purpose is to catch the eye and get attention.

Here is an example of a "mixed media" focal pendant made of hand crafted polymer clay leaves which are then adorned with hammered copper (and silver) swirls, Swarovski crystals, pearls, metal and glass beads, and pieces of genuine sea glass.

While I have a few of these already created, each one is completely different in color, size, style, and adornment materials used.

This necklace is already sold, however, but I wanted to show off the gorgeous blues and greens in this pendant necklace.

I was given the pendant by a client who wished to have a necklace made with it. I was told to "match it" and have the length at 34" long.

This is what I came up with. It's a basic long necklace that has lots of appeal and grace. Since the pendant has a few copper "flecks" buried inside the glass, the findings used to finish this necklace were made of copper also.

Stunning, isn't it?

I've recently been playing around with real leaves (from the front and back yard!) and using them as patterns when I make polymer clay leaves for jewelry. They've been selling like hotcakes and I've even started making "mixed media" leaf jewelry by adding different mediums to a pair or cluster of leaves for a whole different look and feel.

Then I got the idea to add a clay leaf with a copper wire swirl and a bead to the end of a solid copper wire hammered bookmark. . . WOW! I think it looks great!

As with anything else I do, I won't make duplicates, but I don't mind making similars (different colors, shapes, and styles, while using the same "basic" idea). This particular solid copper bookmark I'm keeping for myself since it was my first one and I'm an avid reader, too, but I'll be making others with the leaves I pick off the bushes in my yard! :) I've also made a few where I added a large piece of copper wrapped sea glass as the embellishment. Gorgeous pieces, if I do say so myself.

Here is an 8" bracelet entirely made of genuine sea glass and copper wiring. The sea glass pieces are securely wrapped in the copper wire to ensure their safety and the links and clasp are hand crafted.

The focal piece is a large chunk of white sea glass. It looks like it is a piece of the rim of a mason jar. It has some "frost" to it and, of course, the pitted surface that you expect when you see a piece of genuine sea glass. The two small green and brown pieces that complement the focal glass are also securely wrapped and smooth to the touch.

Because I only have a very few large pieces of sea glass that are curved like this one (it fits the wrist perfectly), don't expect to see too many of this type of sea glass bracelet available. I "do" have two good size chunks of light green glass that would be perfect for this type of bracelet and, after that, only if I find more pieces of glass at the beach.

I was quite happy with the way this one came out and expect it won't last long on eBay. With it's bold patterned print in orange, red, and yellow, it really stands out among the crowd!

There are also 5 delicate strands of silver wire dangling from the pendant that end in a golden Swarovski crystal. The same wire, crystals, and lot of polymer clay were used for the matching earrings.

Because I've been getting more and more requests from moms looking for unique and durable jewelry for their kids, I've been working on getting a new site up and running specifically for young children through the "tweens".

I happened upon a jeweled leaf a few days ago and thought I'd try my hand at making some pretty polymer clay leaves to use as pendants. I had no idea how much this one idea would take off!

I have leaf pendants, leaf necklaces, leaf earrings, and I'm thinking of making some leaf "buttons" or fasteners that I can utilize on some of my handcrafted bags or memory quilts. I even thought of making a leaf mobile with some cute "bugs" to hang in a corner of one of my rooms!

Pictured is just one example of what one of my leaf pendants can look like, although this particular one has already been claimed because of its gorgeous gold shading.

Here's the process . . .

I get to go outside and pick leaves from shrubs, trees (even weeds!) that have a nice vein on them. I wash and pat them dry. I roll out a multitude of colors and shades of clay, place the leaves on the clay to get a good vein impression, then trim the clay once the leaf has been peeled off. This can take a little bit since I don't like an even edge on the leaves, I like texture and shape. Then it gets cured in the oven for 30-40 minutes, given an ice water bath, dried, painted with an acrylic paint, wiped off (this gives it the antiquing effect), let them dry again, and decide if they need a little bit of shading with a pearl-ex powder, and seal with a finish.

THEN I have to decide which color wire would complement it best. While silver and gold wire wrapping is more common, I happen to love the warm copper colors that give polymer clay jewelry so much depth and texture. The leaf photo shown here is wrapped with a soft copper wire that really lets the golden orange color of the leaf pop.

So . . . if you look at these and think they are a 2 minute deal, think again! I can spend a few hours creating these (I make batches of 25-40 leaves at a time) and taking them through all the processes. But I happen to think they are worth it.

Having someone pass you and double take because they need to get a second look at what you have around your neck is all I need to think that these little leaf pendants are worth it.

For those of you who like a bold look, here's my newest handmade beaded jewelry set in a stunning Mokume Gane style in cream, gold, crimson, and copper. It has a very earthy look as, instead of using traditional glass beads and links, I created copper leaf shaped links to complete the necklace. I also "stitched" the clay pendant in a light copper wire for more texture.

For the dangle at the end of the Mokume Gane Leaf Pendant (which is a leaf shape within a leaf shape), I linked a large bicone bead made of polymer clay and 3 copper wire leaf shapes to finish the piece.

Definitely a different approach to what I've been creating so far . . .

Here is an orchid pendant (with matching flower bud earrings) made of polymer clay and faux pearls. The necklace is 28" long for an elegant look and the orchid is 3" long x 2.5" wide. I've been on a roll lately playing with polymer clay and trying to come up with new looks and designs. These came about when I was watching a tutorial from Cindy Leitz (AWESOME polymer clay teacher!) and saw that she had some beads with cane slices placed on a large focal bead. Well, while I liked the look of the flower, I didn't like it on the bead, so I started experimenting and these are what I came up with.

Each designer flower bud bead is individually crafted from cane slices that I've created. Each leaf, each flower is placed one at a time so each bud is totally different from the others. So far, I have buds in orange, purple, golden, and blue palettes and the leaves decorating them come from about five different leaf canes to encourage a more natural look.

Spring is in the air (at least, it is here in Southern Florida!), and the dragonflies with their iridescent wings should be arriving soon. I love the time of the year when you can sit outside and just watch and feel everything moving around you. The birds sing, the sound of the waves lapping onto the shoreline, and, yes, the insects buzzing around all add in to the peacefulness of being outside in the sun.

Here is one little dragonfly (2 1/4" wing to wing and the body is 2" long") created with some slices of a jungle leaf cane I made a bit ago and some matching glass and crystal beads that make up the body. He is suspended on a 26" long twisted black cord and finished with silver plated findings.

The jungle leaf cane is quite striking as it was made with pearl polymer clay (in other words, every single color in the wings has a shimmer to it), was hand sanded with 5 different grits of sandpaper and hand polished for a silky finish and feel. The outer tips of the wings shimmer in a jungle green shade and feature stripes in bold yellows, oranges, and reds. The inner wing color is a reddish orange.

This is a handmade beaded jewelry set that I created to complement a gold/cocoa upholstery evening bag I sold through Paybox, which has an online auction component to it. The evening bag was placed with a minimum bid of $25 and eventually sold for $170! I had enough beads left over to make this bracelet and earrings set to send with the purse.

This beautiful handmade beaded jewelry set was sold in less 2 hours when I placed it on an auction site. It was made as an adjustable length necklace featuring turquoise and lime green ceramic beads and lots of silver accents. As you can see from the photo, it had a layered multi-strand drop which added to the appeal of this dramatic neck piece.

While I will NOT make a duplicate of this necklace set, I have enough of the same beads to make another very appealing turquoise/lime ceramic and silver finding necklace if anyone is interested.
