How To Do A Simple Handmade Bookbind
Are you wondering how to do handmade bookbinding? Maybe you got some notes or sheets of paper and want to bind it into a book by yourself. Handmade bookbinding is actually not that difficult
There are several methods of handmade bookbinding. The easiest way is to stack together your pages and then glue them along the spine edge using a strong glue.
Wait for the glue to dry and then glued a heavier stock paper as a cover. This is known as "Perfect Bound".
Here's the step by step instructions for handmade bookbinding.
1. Stack your pages together. You can fold your pages into two if you wish to book bind a smaller book less than 8 ½ x 11 inches.
2. Clamp the pages together using a press device along the spine edge. You can get the press device at any local office supply store. Then place the paint stirrers along the outside edges of the spine and clamp it together.
3. Use a piece of fine sand paper to rough out the edges along the spine edge of the handmade bookbind.
4. Glue the edges of the paper together. Get a cotton swab or a small brush to spread the glue evenly. Once it dries, which should take only a few minutes, apply a second layer of glue/
5. Once the second layer has dried, glue the cover on. Fold the cover by using the edge of the ruler so it wrap correctly around the pages.
Wait for it to dry and you may need to apply more glue to the cover. That's it, my handmade bookbinding course 101.
I would recommend the Easy Book Binding course by Nathan if you want more details and other methods of handmade bookbinding. It comes with pictures so it is easier to learn about handmade bookbinding.
