Photographic Greeting Cards from the Highlands of Scotland
All the cards below are based on photographs, in the case of the two cards featuring my Grandmother, the photographs were taken almost 100 years ago, the rest are much more recent.
One advantage I have found in splitting up my original lens, is that I can definitely identify areas in which we should be expanding the range of cards offered. There will be more cards appearing here with local views on them before too long ... there may even be some pictures of Edinburgh appearing on some cards soon.
There are some wonderful nooks and crannies in Edinburgh as well as the usual views of the Castle etc.

Highland Gentlemen
A pair of handsome Highland gentlemen in traditional attire. From a photograph taken on a beautiful day in the North of Scotland.
Approximately A5 in size, blank inside for your own message, supplied with a lavender coloured self-seal envelope ready for you to send.
The Cairngorm Mountains

This is a beautiful view of the Cairngorms, taken near where the River Nethy flows into the River Spey.
I will add some other local views as time goes on. There are a number of stunning scenic areas in Strathspey just begging to be put on greeting cards in our own way and eventually I will get around to them all.
A card for Christmas
You won't find 'Merry Christmas' printed on any of my cards but we can add a 'Season's Greetings', 'Merry Christmas' or similar message if you would like us to or you can personalise the card yourself.

Winter Peace
There is a small additional charge to add a message to any card.
It came from the East
I snapped a picture of this little sparrow one very cold morning after a night of driving snow. I was impressed with the way the snow had stuck to the eastern side of the branches and twigs and I did wonder whether the bird was confused by it ... after all, the snow is usually on top of the branch.Or perhaps he was trying to see if there was more snow coming.
To me it's an evocative picture. Nature can have a sense of humour sometimes, it seems, but it also reminds us of the hard time most creatures have during Winter.
Budgerigars on Cards
... sweet budgies, pretty boys ...
A friend was having difficulty getting hold of a card with budgies on it so I came up with these. Who knows, there may be a whole flock of them soon

Birds in the Bush

A little Bird Told Me
Celebrating Summer
Celebrating Summer. This photo was taken during a wonderful celebration and I feel it conveys the fun of the occasion well, I'm sure it will resonate with many other celebrations, whether Summer or Winter.
A card which could be used for any occasion or purpose, it may also be suitable for some of the wiccan or alternative celebrations of the year.
Anyone for Bacchanalia?
Selling My Grandmother
A new slant on some of the products I have and I've only recently tried introducing these cards which are taken from genuine early 20th century photographs.Currently I have a number of photographic cards online and available for purchase. One is shown here, the others you can see on eBid(link in my introduction).
This particular card is adapted from an old photograph of my Grandmother. The original dates from 1911, when she was only 14 years old and was printed as a postcard on the reverse. This was a very common practice in those days although it was clearly never sent as a postcard.
At that time, the early part of the 20th century, it was common to visit the photographer's studio and choose a backdrop with whatever scene you fancied. My Grandmother was a lowly kitchenmaid then but clearly wanted to be seen in a different light.
The picture was taken in 1911 when she was just 14 years old.
The original is rather dog-eared but it cleaned up nicely and is presented as a greeting card, blank inside for your own message.
A tinted photograph ...
This is the second card I am now offering of my Grandmother as a youngster. In this particular picture she was only just 13 years old and had left home to take up a position as a kitchen maid in a "big house" near Dundee in Scotland. The original, dating from 1909, is shown to the right.

It was quite usual (if the sitter could afford it) to have such photos tinted and produced in a larger size for framing but this would have been well beyond her means at the time.
Again, this was originally produced as a monochrome photographic postcard but I have done her the honour of giving it colour and have produced it as a card.
It is also available as a print to frame.
The Seer
... another card / print based on a photograph.
This card has two partner cards, The Crystal Mage and The Watcher, any of which are available as a print should you wish to frame one.
Prints are supplied in A4 size on card but the size of the actual image may vary from one design to another.
This is another card which was originally taken from a photograph, I then worked on the photo (by hand rather than digitally) to bring out highlights etc and the result is what you see here.
The sitter is well known to me :-)
The Crystal Mage and The Watcher
To the left is The Crystal Mage and below is The Watcher.
As you can see, all three of these cards are taken from the same original but have been worked on in different ways.
All three are available as prints, contact me if you are interested, either through Squidoo or eBid.net Link in the opening module above.

Fairy Town

My daughter has a wonderful collection of miniature dollhouses, all 1/48th scale. We thought these would make a good subject for a card.
The houses and accessories shown on the card are made by DJD Designs.
The rhyme reads ...
In a corner of the garden
where the grown-ups never go,
at dusk I find a fairy town
its light are all a-glow
through the windows I peer in,
as fairies sip their tea
But in the morning all is gone
no fairy town I see.
Aunt Clara's Garden

Another photographic card posed from some of my daughter's extensive collection of dollhouse miniatures.
The twelfth scale doll, Aunt Clara, is named after her maker, Clara Cribb, the 1/48th scale fairy house (under the bench) is by DJD designs, book by Dateman Books, doves by Ruth Sutcliffe (flea 235 on eBay).
You don't have to have dollhouses to collect these miniatures, they can look wonderful within shadowboxes or arrangements on shelves.
Anyone for Tea?

And here is his dollhouse wife fulfilling her traditional role.
This is a beautiful display which my daughter has set up on a shelf in order to achieve the scale of a Victorian / Edwardian drawing room.
This 12th scale doll was also handmade by Isobel Wood c 1985.
The Evening News

Another photographic card using posed characters from my daughter's dollhouse miniatures collection.
A typical dollhouse father fulfilling his traditional role.
12th scale doll handmade by Isobel Wood c 1985, Dachund by Ruth Sutcliffe (flea235 on eBay)
The Governess

Another in the series from the setting my daughter has created.
This doll and the paperweight on the little table nearby her are the handiwork of Sandra Morris of Towerhousedolls. Mouse (visible under the skirt of the Governess) and dogs by Ruth Sutcliffe (flea235 on eBay).
A noble gentleman and his lady
Following on from the dollhouse miniatures here are a few more vintage pieces which we think will make excellent greeting cards. This is clearly a noble gentleman and his wife, although the years have taken their toll on their fineries, he and his lady still look very grand.
It did occur to me to photograph the rear view as well, since the colours are closer to the original and really quite stunning, I thought that would be a little silly but it would demonstrate the difference protection from light makes to any item and especially cloth.
The farmer and his wife
The farmer and his wife are a contented pair, shown with the objects they would use daily. These are part of a fascinating little group of dolls my daughter has collected over the years. Although her main collection is of dollhouses, there are always attractive dolls who don't necessarily fit with the houses you have and so she has a couple of shelves on which dolls in various scales are displayed.
There is almost infinite variety in collectable dolls.
The snake charmer
The snake charmer with his basket is a wonderful character.Like the others, he is somewhat faded where he has spent years exposed to the light, yet he is still in great condition.
This group of ethnic dolls makes a beautiful little display of a scene which might have been encountered quite easily at one time in India and even possibly may be still found in some areas of the country.
As I understand it, the snake is mesmerised by the movement of the pipe rather than the sound, as snakes have no ears.
