Hollywood's most glamorous stars came night after night to what was the resort hotel's fashionable Mississippi Ballroom to drink, dine and dance to the music of Ted Fio Rito and other top-drawer big bands. The Mississippi Ballroom is now a popular Wedding and Banquet Hall. The world famous olympic size terrazzo swimming pool is a fun hot spot and a must see.
Lafayette Hotel has recently undergone room upgrades and renovations and is continuing to be improved. The hotel's popularity and tradition of gracious hospitality continues today. Built by playboy homebuilder Larry Imig, the resort hotel enjoyed unparalleled success. In addition to its impressive guest list, several prominent local figures were permanent residents, including clothier Bill Solof, restaurateur Ray Lubach and San Diego Padre baseball mangers Lefty O'Doul and Bucky Harris. True to its original structure is the Olympic-size terrazzo tile swimming pool, designed by Tarzan's Jonny Weissmuller.
Although the final echoes of the big bands have died away, entertainment still continues nightly at the long-established local Sorrento Red Fox Restaurant Lounge and "L" Bar and Restaurant which serves exceptional American Cuisine in a casual atmosphere.
