Handsome Boy Modelling School

Handsome Boy Modelling School is a collaboration between two of hip hop's finest producers: Prince Paul and Dan the Automator. Along with numerous featuerd artists, they have released two concept albums that tend to poke fun at the materialistic and self-absorbed white upper class.

For the albums, Prince Paul and Dan the Automator assume the characters Chest Rockwell and Nathanial Merriweather, respectively. Their first album called "So... How's Your Girl?" was released in 1999 and their second album "White People" was released in 2004. Sadly, there are no more albums on the horizon, as apparently the two had a falling out over business issues in 2006 resulting in Prince Paul leaving Handsome Boy Modelling School.

If you haven't heard either of the Handsome Boy Modelling School albums and are a fan of Gorillaz, Deltron 3030 or De La Soul then I highly recommend giving them a listen.

So... How's Your Girl?

Less of a concept album than Prince Paul's other efforts such as Psychoanalysis and Prince Among Theives. The album samples and is based loosely around dialogue from a sitcom called "Get A Life" (see YouTube video below), which starred Chris Elliot ("Woogie" from "There's Something About Mary").

Features:
Mike D (Beastie Boys), Dave (De La Soul), Sean Lennon, Brand Nubian, Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, DJ Shadow, Encore, J-Live, Biz Markie, Kid Koala, El-P, Roison Murphy, Money Mark, DJ Quest.

Highlights include:
- Once Again (ft. Sadat-X and Grand Puba from Brand Nubian)
- The Project's (ft. Del Tha Funkee Homosapien & Dave from De La Soul)
- The Truth (ft. Roison Murphy & J-Live)

White People

After a five year hiatus in which both producers worked on numerous solo and side projects, the dynamic duo teamed up again to create their second album "White People". It roughly continues where "So How's Your Girl?" left off. This album features a much more eclectic mix of featured artists, from hip hop to rock, roots to alternative and was a lot less about hip hop. Some even describe it as "the anti-thesis of hip hop".

Features:
De La Soul, Cat Power, Rob Swift (X-Ecutioners), Mike Patton (Faith No More), Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, Alex Kapranos (Franz Ferdinand), Barrington Levy, Jack Johnson, Casual (Hieroglyphics), Rahzel, DJ Qbert (Invisbl Skratch Piklz), Grand Wizard Theodore, Jazzy Jay, Lord Finesse, Cage, El-P, Pharrell Williams (N.E.R.D.), Dres (Black Sheep), AG, RZA (Wu-Tang), The Mars Volta, John Oates (Hall and Oates).

Highlights include:
- If It Wasn't For You (De La Soul)
- The World's Gone Mad (Del Tha Funkee Homosapien, Alex Kapranos and Barrington Levy)
