January 23 is International Handwriting Day, Free Handwriting eBooks for Kids

Expressing Yourself Through Handwriting

In today's society the individuality and uniqueness of handwriting seems to have been lost amidst fast-moving technology, where it's easier and a thousand times quicker to send a text message, email or fax. This of course has its positives, including saving on the exorbitant cost of postage and the high likelihood, in South Africa in any event, of the mail not reaching its intended destination or being tampered with en route to said destination.

The lost art of handwriting is one of the few ways we can uniquely express ourselves. National Handwriting Day is commemorated each year on January 23 in conjunction with John Hancock's birthday. John Hancock was the first to sign the Declaration of Independence and is famous for his large, bold signature.

The purpose of National Handwriting Day is to alert the public to the importance of handwriting and gives everyone a chance to re-explore the purity and power of handwriting. This lens will focus on handwriting exercises for little people, and where they can download specially created ebooks for free to practice their handwriting and have a lot of fun at the same time.

Never lose an opportunity of seeing anything beautiful, for beauty is God's handwriting.

First we deal with the big people who CAN write

I remember, and it wasn't THAT long ago, where the excitement of receiving a long-awaited letter or postcard was surmounted only by the actual receipt of it. During the times of the African Bush War when we wrote to our friends and family who were serving in the Armed Forces, that letter, regardless of how long or how short, was one of the few things that the soldiers had to look forward to.

When I have traveled abroad sans my offspring, the first thing I do is send out masses of postcards, and then more from every new town, city or monument. I don't think for one moment my children will keep the postcards for longer than a few weeks at most, so upon my return have been known to rally around and collect all of those which not only serve to remind me of my visit, but also sport the authenticity of actually having been posted - with a REAL stamp.

Of course we sent out emails, text messages and the like, but to writ a card or a letter individualizes the action, makes it personal.

Now we look at little people who CAN'T write or are still learning to write

You know how important writing will be to your child's life. It will be important from first-grade through college and throughout adulthood.

alphabet handwriting free ebook There's nothing quite like looking at the proud and fierce determination as your little one settles down to write his or her name. While 6 year old Aiden is 3 years ahead in his reading and further ahead in computers than I am, his writing took a bit of a back seat until recently when we started our homeschooling in earnest. I almost burst with pride when I looked at him concentrating on getting the perfectly rounded letters to form his name "AIDEN"... and then he discovered the joys of an eraser when the line didn't quite go as straight as he would have liked... and then the joys of a ruler to rule off while he had another attempt at perfection...

Children need to be ready to start learning from their very first day at school. If they are homeschooled children this can effectively commence at the age preferred by the homeschooling parent/educator. Usually this is younger than the conventional starting school-age. Whilst I use the term "Teaching your child..." I am mindful of the fact that children have the natural ability to learn, a curiosity and inquisitiveness to learn and explore, and hence my use of the word "teaching..." is used within the context of guiding and assisting a natural-born learner.

I devised handwriting, early reading, writing and alphabet picture dictionaries focusing on letter/word/picture relationships, as well as early phonics and would be thrilled if you'd like to download any or all of them, with my compliments.

This set of 6 ebooks are around 25 to 40 pages each and are very simple handwriting tracing/practice exercises, with other fun activities as well. There is a book of simple words and sentences for each letter of the alphabet. They can be found at this link.

Activity Picture Dictionaries, Focusing on Simple Phonics and Handwriting

You are most welcome to download any or all of the ebooks for a fun learning experience.

free short a picture activity ebookChildren learn by repetition, and what easier way than to provide them with a book filled with fun pictures, and associated words which they can practice tracing over or writing on the training lines on each page. Fun puzzles will enhance this learning experience.

These Full Color Books are suitable for early education but can be adapted for younger or older children. The purpose of these books is word/picture and sound/letter recognition. These books are ideally used in conjunction with other activity books where Picture Quests or Word Quests form part of the activity, but are a fun and colorful addition to any classroom or homeschool library.

Reading and Writing Go Hand in Hand

Let's start with simple words, with pictures, for each letter of the alphabet

free ebooks teaching your child to read and write staidenshomeschoolWith Aiden, more so probably than with the other children given his 3 year advancement on reading, I am enforcing the reading/writing relationship. He can at age 6 by no means write the words he can read, he just hasn't had the handwriting experience to enable him to comprehend what he is writing when he is writing, while he certainly can and does whilst reading.

For the other girls, when they were younger, I devised a set of Early Readers, a book for each letter of the alphabet, combined with handwriting exercises, focusing on extremely simple words. The colorful pictures and activities will enhance the learning experience, and because the ebooks are adaptable to older or younger learners, extension exercises are readily available.

Enjoy, with my compliments! Please click on the image to take you to the download page.

Thank you for sharing the love <3
