My daughter enjoys the Disney television show called Hannah Montana so it looks like the school holidays will have to include a trip to see Hannah Montana: The Movie. Hubby joked with DD7 and asked why she would want to go and see the Hannah Montana movie - the reply was "I need to see what she chooses" note NEED, not WANT!!!!!
Let me explain, the star of Hannah Montana is played by Miley Cyrus. She is an ordinary school age girl called Miley Stewart who happens to have a secret identity - Hannah Montana. As Hannah Montana she is a famous pop star.
Well we've been to Hannah Montana: The Movie and we enjoyed ourselves. It was definately a Disney movie, but sometimes it's nice not to have to think too hard about the plot! The target audience seemed absolutely enthralled which was the main thing.

The movie Hannah Montana opens with Hannah/Miley acting like a really spoilt brat. She seems aided in her bratty ways by her new agent Vita, played wonderfully by Vanessa Williams.
After Hannah Montana gets into a public fight and then messes up her best friend Lilly's sweet 16th birthday her dad, Robby Ray decides it's time to whisk her back to her roots. Thinking she's on her way to New York Hannah makes a huge Hello New York photo opportunity coming out of the plane and discovers she's in Tennessee!

Let's call it a Hannah detox.When Hannah/Miley realises what her father has done she is understandably not happy! The family end up staying with Miley's maternal grandmother Ruby who is celebrating her birthday.
As with all movies Hannah Montana has to have a love interest and a villain. The love interest is called Travis and was a childhood friend of Miley's before she moved with her family to Malibu and started leading a double life.
The villain is Oswald who is a paparazzi style reporter determined to discover what Hannah Montana's secret is.

During the movie there was a special cameo appearance made by Taylor Swift when she sang at the Barn Dance in Crowley Corners (Miley Stewart's home town). My DD was in absolute awe when Taylor Swift came onscreen and I could hear excited voices whispering around the cinema - look it's Taylor Swift. Definately a highlight for a number of the young audience that were there.
Miley Stewart (as herself NOT Hannah Montana) was encouraged to get up and sing and so we were introduced to The Hoedown.
Parents who remember Miley Cyrus' father - Billy Ray Cyrus will appreciate the ironic twist at the hoedown. During the 80s people re-discovered line dancing the the sounds of Billy Ray cyrus' hit single Achy Breaky Heart. During the Hannah Montana movie Miley Cyrus makes up her own line dancing, which is apparently 'very cool'.

As everyone probably knows (unless they've been living under a rock or have no young people in their life) the part of Hannah Montana/Miley Stewart is played by Miley Cyrus (who's real name is Destiny Hope Cyrus). Her other on-screen family reprised their television identities on the big screen with Billy Ray Cyrus (Miley's real life and on screen dad) playing Hannah Montana's dad, Robby Ray and Jason Earles playing Hannah Montana's brother Jackson. Emily Osment (Hayley Joel Osment's sister) also reprised her role as Hannah Montana's best friend Lilly.

Hannah Montana - The Soundtrack
When the movie is about a secret pop star you expect a good soundtrack and this one really delivers. I was already a fan of the song Climb and The Hoedown Throwdown reminds me of The Bone Dance (from the television series) which I also enjoyed!
It is aimed at a younger audience, however and when I posed the question - what did you think of the soundtrack to my DD7 I got a resounding thumbs up!

- My daughter (now 27) and I have enjoyed Hanna Montana for a long time, so we went to see the movie on the big screen, and were not disappointed. Although it was, by nature of the genre, an overly simplistic view of life in a small town, it struck many a chord in my heart, reminding me often of my childhood and a time when life seemed so much easier.
Loved that you found and included the videos for the Hoedown Throwdown - that was one of our favorite parts of the movie.

- Okay, I admit that I'm not a huge Hannah Montana fan (sorry, no, I'm not a witch, LOL), but I did take my 9 year old daughter to see the movie last night and we both enjoyed it very much. Today we bought the soundtrack too! I think we may have convinced my husband to play "Butterfly Fly Away" on his guitar so they can sing a duet together like Miley and Billy Ray. :)
