A Review of the Hannah Montana Movie

I have to admit, I'm a bit embarrassed at even making this lens. Hannah Montana is not my thing...however, the Hannah Montana movie took me by quite a surprise. There were some really great parts to it, and some other not so great parts. I'm torn as to my opinion on it, but I think overall it was a pretty ok movie. The Good Parts of Hannah Montana...

1. The Chemistry- I think Miley and Travis had pretty cute and believable chemistry. Even I, the bitter romantic, couldn't help but smile at some of the adorable moments they had. Ok...I squeed.

2. The Songs- Not all of them of course. I'm not a huge fan of Hannah Montana's music, but I did like quite a few of the songs, and even the one by Taylor Swift. I especially liked the song "The Climb" which really had a good message for the movie. "Let's Get Crazy" was also catchy and fun.

3. The Cinematography- Ok, it's not going to win any awards for cinematography, but the television show transitioned nicely to the big screen. The director did a good job with the camera work, and the location it was shot in was truly beautiful.

4. The Message- Well, the movie did what all good kid movies should do--it had an important message about finding yourself and not being snobby and spoiled. Plus, I liked the song, "The Climb"...

5. The Jokes- There were some funny jokes, even if it pushed the edge a little. An alligator bite to the butt wouldn't just hurt Jackson...he could've lost his entire backside! And the scene with the mayor's dinner and the ferret was pretty funny,

Travis Brady:

"Life's a climb, but the view is great."

The Bad Parts of Hannah Montana...

1. The Stereotypes- I don't know if it was just me, but I felt they weren't being very nice to British people. Oswald the reporter was very annoying and rude, and so was his boss, the head of the tabloid magazine. His daughters were also just as annoying and a bit scary with their love for Hannah Montana, but then again all the fans were. Maybe that's just how I saw it, and maybe I saw it wrong, but I don't know.

2. The Melodramatic Moments- A lot of the scenes were a lot more over dramatic then they needed to be. Like that scene were she turned around because she heard someone coming...they slowed down the moment and made her hair fly around and it seemed like something interesting was about to happen, but nothing did. Not to mention the scene in the revolving door was really played out a lot...the editor must have loved using that slow effect on scenes.

3. The Fans- And no, I don't mean the ones in the movie. I mean the ones in the movie theater. Yes, I know since they weren't part of the movie, I shouldn't be complaining about them, but they did affect my viewing experience. During each of the songs in the movie, a number of fans got up and started singing and dancing with it. I wish I was kidding when I said that adults and kids, boys and girls alike, all got up and started dancing when "Hoedown Throwdown" came on. Plus, when "The Climb" started and everyone in the movie was waving their hands, the people in the theater took out their phones and started to wave their hands as if they too were at a concert. I was peeved that I couldn't hear or see the movie well because of all the people singing and dancing around me. Not to mention the screaming when any of the following came onscreen: Lucas Till, aka Travis Brady, Taylor Swift, and Rascal Flatts. If you choose to watch this movie, wait a few weeks for the hard-core fans to chill out a bit and go to a late showing where there is less of a chance of little girls being there and running around. Unless you are one of these people wishing to participate in the singing and dancing--in that case, have at it.

4. The Ending-SPOILER ALERT!-The ending was what annoyed me most of all. The whole reason the trailer interested me was because I wanted to see what Miley chose at the end--Hannah or Miley. And in the end, she got both. This drove me nuts; it made the entire movie feel anticlimactic. Sure, she realized who she truly was and learned more about herself, but I think she'll eventually go back to her "Hannah-ways" and be a snobby, rude celebrity again. Hopefully she won't need another Tennessee intervention to snap her back into reality. But I was pretty disappointed, because I always wanted to see the reaction of the world when they learned she was Hannah Montana. Oh well.
