Unique Menorahs Make Great Hanukkah Gifts

Traditional or Modern, unique Hanukkah menorahs can be a personal expression as well as the centerpiece of the Hanukkah celebration. Chanukkah is celebrated for eight days in December. It is a celebration of religious freedom. Hanukah is the Hebrew word for dedication. It is a time to remember the re-dedication of the Temple in Jerusalem by the Maccabees more than 2,000 years ago after a military victory. The candles are lit to celebrate the miracle of the oil lamp which burned for eight days, when there should have only been enough oil for one day.

One candle is lit on the first night, two on the second, increasing by one candle per night until the final night when all eight candles are lit. The extra candle, which usually sits somewhat separate from the others, or on a different level (higher or lower) is the helper candle and is used to light the other candles.

Kids love fun menorahs, while other family members may prefer an artistic menorah of glass, ceramic, brass or other metals. Which ever type of menorah you are looking for, I hope you will find it here. I have collected a range from very unusual to traditional Chanukkah menorahs.

There are many acceptable English spellings of the Hebrew holiday listed alphabetically: Chanuka, Chanukah, Chanukkah, Hanukah, Hanukka and Hanukkah.

Bicycle menorah available, see below for details

The holiday runs for eight days from 25 Kislev through 2 Tevet on the Hebrew calendar

All Jewish Holidays run from sundown to sundown the following day, and are based on dates on the Hebrew calendar. The date on this page is the e eve when the Hanukkah begins on the Gregorian calendar, therefore the evening we light the first candle.

National Hanukkah Menorah in Washington DC

Lit on the White House grounds

A National Hanukkah Menorah is lit on each of the eight days of Hanukkah on the White House grounds in Washington DC. Typically the largest celebration is the first day, where last year (2010) the lighting ceremony was followed by musical performances from the US Air Force Band, and those in attendance enjoyed hot latkes (potato pancakes) and donuts. I love this poster of the national menorah:

What I like best about this second poster is that it really lets us see just how massive the National Hanukkah menorah really is, when compared to the men on the platform.

My Father Made a Giant Hanukkah Menorah Out of Diet Coke Cans

This Giant Menorah is Made Entirely from Diet Coke Cans

Our girls want to know "Did Papa and Grandma really drink all that diet coke?"

Yes, this is for real. My father has built a massive menorah out of diet coke cans, which sits on his front lawn every year. They are standing near it in the first photo to give an idea of it's size. In the tradition of placing your lit menorah where passer bys can see it and share in the celebration, he lights it, one additional light for each of the eight nights. The second photo, although quite blurry should give you an idea of what it looks like on the last night.

I want to say I did a Menorah rescue last year. I was at TJ Max after the holiday and they had ceramic children’s one that I had seen which usually gets broken in the store. Got one for $5 after the holiday.

This lens is great! I am a Christian and have always had an interesting in the Jewish Culture. I have a small collection of menorahs that I keep out all year. They are so cool! I started collecting in college. My husband and I just returned from a trip to Israel too and loved seeing so much Jewish Culture up close.
