I was always taught that the candles represent the rededication of the 2nd Temple in Jerusalem. While looking for the menorahs for this page, I came across several other theories as to why we light the candles. - My best friend in high school was Jewish and I was usually with her at some point during Chanukkah. I heard the first part of those Chanukkah blessings "Barukh atah Adonai, Eloheinu, melekh ha'olam" so many times that I memorized them and know them until this day. However, I never knew the translation. I'm touched by the meaning of the words. I'm so glad you included this in your lens.
