Bloomsday

June 16th is Bloomsday

16th June is the day in 1904 on which all the action of James Joyce's novel Ulysses takes place. The day is celebrated every year on 16th June by Joyceans all over the world but nowhere more than in Dublin, where the novel is set. In Dublin, celebrations go on for a week from the 10th to the finale on Bloomsday, 16th June.

It is traditional to celebrate Bloomsday by dressing up and visiting the locations of the book, taking part in readings, walks and other activities such as breakfasts and dinners, which in some way connect with Ulysses, its author and its world.

I think Dulbin has changed to much, I would hardly recognise it, but this great Lens does bring back memories! I think something that is happening all over Ireland these days, is that many people are feeling very unsure about the future, and I read that a large number are thinking of going to live abroad, because the terrible debt situation there.

Dublin is without a doubt one of my favourite cities. The only downer for me was that the last time I visited there were no pubs on O'Connell street, just a huge needle!! Tip for visitors.. Go to the top of O'Connell street and turn left, the first thing you'll see is a pub

    Thank you Marsha,
No, I live on the south coast of England but Dublin is certainly a great place to be. Music plays such an important part in the life of the city that I guess it shapes its soul.
