Vienna's Classical Music Walk of Fame

Vienna is known as the city of music but has a varied cultural life, with 70 theatres, 4 opera houses, 2 musical theatres, 100 museums and a cultural year which abounds with theatre, music and dance festivals.
The route from St. Stephen's Square (Stephansplatz) to the Theater an der Wien, has had "stars" embedded in the pavement to commemorate prominent personalities of classical music; known as the Classical music Walk of Fame, it passes such important places as the Secession, the Musikverein (Society of the Friends of Music in Vienna), the Vienna State Opera, the House of Music and of course, St. Stephen's Cathedral.

Vienna's Literary or Movie Tour

Another interesting theme providing the basis for a city tour is the literary or movie tour and in Vienna, the most popular theme is still "The Third Man". Not only was the book based in Vienna but the movie was also shot on location, turning the 65-meter-high Giant Ferris Wheel (Riesenrad) built in 1896-97, into a global icon. You can take a ride on this art nouveau heritage and enjoy an incomparable view of the old city. Everyone loves the Prater amusement park with over 250 attractions and while your there, make sure that you taste some typical Viennese hot sausages with sweet mustard from a Würstelstand.
Once you have had enough of the fairground hubbub, you can continue your walk along the Prater Hauptallee- a paradise for jogging, in-line skating or walking.

This really is a city with so much to see and do, every day at at 12 noon, in the Hoher Markt, another famous piece of art nouveau, the "Anker" Clock strikes and a procession of historic, life-size figures emerge, accompanied by music for the period. Read more about Vienna in Blue Danube Vienna

New Year in Vienna
At the stroke of midnight, the Pummerin of St. Stephen's Cathedral (the second largest swinging bell in Europe) strikes to herald in the New Year and Vienna's historic centre is transformed into a pulsating dance arena. There is a New Year's Trail, winding through the narrow lanes from City Hall, along which you can indulge in punch and seasonal treats. There is entertainment with comedy, waltzes, an operetta, rock, pop, DJ and folk music. The Vienna Dance Schools even offer crash courses in the waltz, and of course, there is a large fireworks display at the Prater.
The New Year's Eve atmosphere can also be enjoyed at a number of other unique locations, revelers can take a boat trip along the Danube, dance at the grand Imperial Ball in Hofburg Palace or party at New Year galas held in City Hall and Vienna's leading hotels. For rail enthusiasts, the Majestic Imperator train, which is described as a palace on rails, allows passengers to ride into the New Year in luxurious style, while opera fans enjoy the annual performance of Johann Strauss' Die Fledermaus, staged by the Vienna State Opera.
New Year's Day in Vienna is famous around the world for the annual New Year's Day concert by the Vienna Philharmonic and it is broadcast on a big screen - in front of City Hall.
