Ghost, Goblins, Witches and Vampires
Halloween is the one night of the year when you get to dress up and be someone else. Halloween is one of my favorite holidays of the year. I love to see the kids coming to the door in their cute little costumes. I love to see all the houses decorated up with the ghost, goblins and witches.
I was always torn between wanting to stay at home and see all the kids come to the door and taking my kids out myself and watching them have a blast. So my sister and I took turns at it, one year I stayed home and she took the out, the next year we switched!
Most stores already have jumped passed Halloween and gone right to Christmas. I prefer to take one holiday at a time and enjoy it to the fullest!!

Halloween (or Hallowe'en) is a holiday celebrated on October 31. It has roots in the Celtic festival of Samhain and the Christian holy day of All Saints. It is largely a secular celebration, but some Christians and pagans have expressed strong feelings about its religious overtones. Irish immigrants carried versions of the tradition to North America during Ireland's Great Famine of 1846. The day is often associated with the colors orange and black, and is strongly associated with symbols such as the jack-o'-lantern. Halloween activities include trick-or-treating, ghost tours, bonfires, costume parties, visiting haunted attractions, carving jack-o'-lanterns, reading scary stories, and watching horror movies.

Halloween when I was a kid
...remembering times gone by
I remember what Halloween use to be like growing up. Parents made costumes instead of hitting the local Walmart. Treats were actually homemade candy apples, rice krispie squares or brownies, apples, halloween kiss candies and chocolate bars that were more then one bite.
Parties at school lasted pretty much the full day and it was the entire school participating. Going from room to room and seeing how each class would decorate their room. The entire gym was decked out for the whole school to finish off the day with a huge party.
These days I'm not even sure if kids go trick or treating anymore

Halloween isn't just for people. I always need a little help getting in the mood these days since my children have become adults and there's no grandchildren yet. But I still manage to do it any way.

One of my favorite things to do was to see how other people had decorated their houses for Halloween and get a few new ideas from them. And I was simply amazed at the ingenuity of some people.
