The Happy Mondays were a unique and influential band from Manchester England popular in the late 80s and early 90s. Shaun Ryder, Bez and the rest of the crew took excess to new levels and were an intregal part of the 'Madchester' scene until their demise in 1992.

Shaun and Bez went on to form Black Grape whose debut album spawned 3 hit singles and a new crop of fans in 1994. And the boys are still going strong - Shaun sang on the Gorillaz huge 2005 hit "Dare", and Bez recently won Celebrity Big Brother 5.

Happy Mondays Quotes

For, by and against.

"I think I look good for 41, too. People forget that I'm that old. They think I'm Peter Pan!" - Shaun Ryder

"I grew up in New York in the 1970s, and I've seen a lot of people who live life on the edge. But I've never before seen a group of people who had no idea where the edge is." - Tina Weymouth

"In music, you've got to please yourself first. Because if you don't, you're not putting anything into it, are you? I hear that you're supposed to put everything you've got into music. So I'm told." - Shaun Ryder

I saw the Mondays at the Citi club (now Avalon) in Boston in 1990. I was about 15, and definitely shouldn't have been in there! But wow - what a great show and memorable musical era.
