Using a Hard Drive Docking Station

type=textHard drive docking stations are great for a number of purposes. They can allow you to use external hard drives for creating back ups of all of your data, files, and folders or provide extra storage beyond your computer. Either way they offer convenience and affordability. The bare hard drives typically used with docking stations cost significantly less than traditional hard drives in a case. By using the docking station you also don't have to open up the computer, connect and disconnect cables, and so forth.

Most of of these docking stations offer "plug and play" simplicity. To use a hard drive docking station you must choose one that will support the hard drive you select and will be compatible with your OS. Then plug in the power adapter, turn it on, connect the DC jack and USB cable or eSATA cable, connect to the PC, insert the hard drive and turn on the station. When you are done, just power it off, and eject the hard drive.

Most of these devices are hot swappable and don't require you to install any drivers as your system will automatically recognize them.

Some of these hard drive docking stations will offer two bays, but almost all of them will accommodate both 2.5" and 3.5" hard drives. Some will also include a card reader.
