In 2011 I had everything on computers, PCs and Laptops from drive problems to out and out failures. Short of locusts (do locusts infest computers anywhere in the known world?) I've seen it all dealing with personal PC for over 20+ years. Congrats on getting it back together. See, it's not hopeless when a drive crashes, just awfully darn near hopeless!

It was a good read, I've had a few hard drive crashes myself. The 1st time, it was a nightmare because it took me by surprise, but now I dare say that I'm a bit of a tech geek. Well part of it was out of necessity because there was no one else to help me. Now I seemed to be asked for help with their computers before they decide to take it to a professional.

Improving wireless Internet signal strength can be done with proper placement of the router and an omni-directional antenna. Maximize a wireless router signal through firmware updates for the fastest Internet connection with ideas from an experienced computer specialist in the free video on Internet connections.

Before picking router for connection make sure router has enough ports for PC's a as well as the Internet connection. Look for which topology you can suitably apply with particular router.

Its a quality lens. I read your lens very carefully and you provide a lot information through this. The usb extension, vga switcher, video splitter, hdmi matrix switcher are the computer networking devices which are very useful to transferring the data throughout the networks.

Hey, this was a great read. You have a nice flair with your writing. I did not care for Vista much either (an understatement to be sure) to the point I started using Mac exclusively out of the office. I do have to say that I like windows 7 Pro, you might give it a look if vista continues to vex you.

Really very good lens I prefer to backup all the important data but If lost by some reason we can recover them by unistal's Quick Recovery software which can be downloaded from http://www.unistal.com

I had a hard drive crash a couple of years back and yes, it was one of the most traumatic things that happened that year. And I doubt that I'm any better prepared for it now.

Hopefully your lens will spur me into sorting and saving the things I need BEFORE it happens again.

I am currently trying to fix or replace a hard drive in an old Apple iBook G4 that was used for school students. It's a good idea to always back up all of your computer information on a PC or a Mac because they can both crash any time.

Very comprehensive lens Julie. It must've been a nightmare for you! I was going to click 'it never happened to me' (or however it's worded) in the poll, but I didn't want to tempt fate!! 5*****

Wow very detailed, and you sure learned a lot of lessons from doing this. 5***** and a lot more if I could for a great lens.

I used to use WS_FTP too, but then found I couldn't get it free any more. Didn't want to pay, so now I use FileZilla, which is free and in many ways better too. There is often a free solution these days.

I use a lot fo free software, like Open Office to replace MS Office. Not quote as good, but 95% there, and for the amount I use it, it saved me a lot of money.

I rely heavily on external USB Drives and Flash Drives for backups and for copying from one machine to another.

Great Lens! I felt your pain. Both in my personal and professional life I have lost many hard drives. With some luck and good planning I have not lost any data (many times it was more luck). Not today though. I have added an online backup service to my safety net. It is so important to backup your valuable content. Every day thousands of computer files are needlessly put at risk. Finding a solution that is right for you is so important. I have written about online backup solutions at Squidoo and at my backup.jmjgroup.com.

    Take care.

    -Jordan.

Oh my, computers are our boon and our bane aren't they? When my little Gateway laptop with XP crashed I went over to the Mac side. I LOVE it so far. I have an iMac desktop. I'm thinking of looking in to that online computer backup service when they get it available for Macs. I think $50 a year is worth it. I hate losing all my work! Although my son bought a cool little gadget on eBay that was able to retrieve some of my important things from my last two crashed computers.
